Hi guys,
I did a bit of searching but couldn't come up with the answer I was looking for. We are renting a car and traveling from SJD to LV and I wanted to confirm that this last section of road is the correct road to take. It looks to be a bit of a shortcut and I want to make sure it is still a safe road to travel on. The alternative would be going all the way into La Paz and then over to LV. Thanks!
Regards,
Peter

That's the shortcut. it was in great shape before the last hurricane which didn't hit that area as bad as it did SJD
Maybe somebody down there now can give you current road conditions. If not, there's a little town at the turnoff and you can ask a local if you know a little español.
"esta buena la carretera?" gotta twill the "rr"

Yes - that is the route - Watch out for the short section on 286, a lot of pot holes on the road and free roaming cows are here.

If you're driving at night, really really watch out for cows.

We made it! The road was mostly in perfect condition. A couple areas where it had washed out and yes, A LOT of pot holes on 286.
