Re: Sunday@OB
The front of the board is nubbed so you can just focus on surfing the wave

Re: Sunday@OB
The board in the first vid is a Firewire Vanguard/Tomo. (Can we get a review?) The one in the second is a custom shape.

The board in the second video is not a custom shape, it's HB's Anti 5'4...discojuggernaut wrote:The board in the first vid is a Firewire Vanguard/Tomo. (Can we get a review?) The one in the second is a custom shape.

I have the 5'0 Firewire Vanguard (Pevic/kite model). The smaller sizing of the Vanguard allows for an awesome throw-around factor. It feels kind of like riding a skateboard or skimboard. The unique bottom shape and also at the tip really keeps the board from purling and gives the board some amazing speed and handling for its size.
When edging the board stays nicely locked in and it's smooth through the chop, like crazy smooth. I've yet to feel any other eps/epoxy board ride like a Firewire. What I truly like is when I unlock the edge to carve. The board feels EXACTLY like my snowboard feels ripping down a steep groomed slope. I can make big arc carves or small slalom like carves or just lay it flat and let it run. It's loose and nimble how I like, but still very stable and controllable. For jumping it's just simply cheating. It rips off the water and because of its size to power ratio it just wants to fly. I've literally almost landed some 540 strapless backrolls because it's so easy to throw around and carries so much speed (note I was only trying to do regular 360 backrolls). This board is FUN on steroids!
I did some experimenting and I found that I preferred how the board rides on smaller waves and river/lake swell with it set up as a quad. I think head-high and bigger waves would be more ideal for it in thruster mode, but I've yet to try it. It's really nice that this board allows for both options though.
There's some good reviews on Kite Forum about the new Firewire Vanguard. Make sure to search Firewire vs Vanguard because Axis makes a board called the Vanguard too. Btw... Live2Kite is the only local dealer for the Firewire kite surfboards.
