Kite for the Bay - Saturday, August 4
Freestyle Photo Extravaganza
(Windsurfers Welcome!)
http://baykeeper.org/kiteforthebay
Have you ever watched a beautiful windy day pass you by because the water quality was too poor to risk kiting? Have you gotten sick because you dared to kiteboard after a storm flushed run-off and sewage into the bay? As kiteboarders we appreciate some of the best the Bay has to offer, but we also feel the direct effects of pollution. We have a stake in fighting to keep our water clean.
At the same time, have you been kiting for years and yet never had a good photo of yourself ripping it up on the water? Now’s your chance to change that!
San Francisco Baykeeper and Kite415 are pleased to present the second annual "Kite for the Bay", a noncompetitive kiteboarding event to benefit Baykeeper's successful work to protect the Bay. On Saturday, August 4th, we welcome you to join us for a freestyle photo extravaganza at 3rd Avenue where everybody is welcome and all participants—intermediate, advanced, or professional—will have the chance to get their picture taken on the water.
HERE’S WHAT THE DAY WILL LOOK LIKE:
1pm +: Participants meet at 3rd Avenue South launch area for registration & to pick up a Baykeeper armband. This is what signals the photographers to capture amazing shots of you on the water.
2:30-4:30pm: Freestyle photo extravaganza: kite by the boats with Baykeeper Flags and get your photo taken! (Jump only to the side or downwind of the boats). Boats will be located offshore from the south launch.
5pm – 8pm: BBQ
After the event, your photos will be posted online for you to download free of charge.

ABOUT SAN FRANCISCO BAYKEEPER:
San Francisco Baykeeper is the pollution watchdog for San Francisco Bay. Since 1989, Baykeeper has been holding polluters accountable and strengthening clean water laws for the benefit of the Bay's water quality, wildlife and recreational users. Baykeeper is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
ABOUT KITE415:

We offer one-on-one instruction, jet ski assistance and coaching through radio helmets for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. As a result, KITE415 students become independent kiteboarders quickly and safely, and advanced students take their skills to an entirely new level. Whether you want to pick up the fundamentals of kiteboarding, refine your kiteboarding performance, or learn to kitesurf big waves, KITE415 has the kiteboarding lesson for you! Our staff and instructors look forward to working with you to make this experience a safe and fun one. Discover your kiteboarding passion!

Re: Kite for the Bay - Saturday, August 4 - @ 3rd Ave
I thought Live2Kite and Boardsports were the only schools/shops that had done any give back Non-Profit fundraising events in the past, but it is great to see KITE415 in on the action too
Kudos for putting on a benefit event this year and keeping the spirit alive - Baykeeper is a great org!

Re: Kite for the Bay - Saturday, August 4 - @ 3rd Ave
Thanks for the support for Baykeeper! You're correct: last year Baykeeper worked with Live2Kite on the downwinder. This year, KITE415 is hosting at 3rd Ave. But it is the 2nd "Kite for the Bay" event.
Also, I'm psyched to announce that the event will be supported by:
At the center of the event, Captain John of KiteTheBay ( http://www.kitethebay.com ) will be there (only partly because of the coincidental name similarity!) with his boat (WINDSEEKER) on the water to host photographers.
We also have a growing list of kick-ass photographers who will be on the water:
*Erin Loscocco (http://www.loscocco.net/) (A master of local kiting photography)
*Stefanie Atkinson (http://www.stefanieatkinson.com/) (Who joined for the downwinder with Live2Kite last year)
*Henry Wu (http://www.henrywublog.com/) (Who, after this event, will be the perfect person to contact about kiteboarding weddings!)
Thanks to the many people who have helped out with these events!

We'll have the two boats ("BK" and "WS" for Baykeeper and WINDSEEKER) in the following configuration, just FYI. We'll explain more at the sign-in as well.
