Wow. What a crazy vibe going around. Between this and the "Shellgate affair" that I was involved in, we need to chill. It's all about awareness. It gets hot, beaches get crowded, we want to kite, I understand. But realize that this precious sport that we all enjoy can be taken from us. Learn what you can from this blog. But make it safe for all. Bogus claim or not. Ride with responsiblity.

Complete bs and obvious, no way, the report states, I don't speak spanish but I a mexican kid looked toward a kite? So I know what happened? C'mon this is not a real credible scenario but yeah be careful this weekend, its super crowded.

So according to you gnukid, one person would have created 2 accounts on bak and made that up??
Or maybe 2 persons would have agree to make that story up??
What's obvious?
What's not credible?
I don't know what goes through your mind gnukid but that's weird thinking!

Re: Little girl with smashed face at Alameda today
So here's the latest update. My girlfiriend went to the gym tonight and was confronted by the family of the little girl who was cut on Saturday because they heard that my girlfriend kitesurfs. The family is rightfully pissed and plans to take action. The little girl was seriously injured. She has a huge gash from mouth to ear. They rushed her to Oakland where they called in a doctor from SF who gave her 9 stitches (a lot for a 9-year old).
The "kiter" who smashed the little girl bailed and the family got stuck with the medical bills. This incident is not going away and i'm guessing it will be the one that closes Alameda for kitesurfing. I can only see three options: 1) the individual who cut the little girl, if he reads this forum, comes forward and pays the medical bills. 2.) the kitesurfing community identifies and finds the guy and make him pay the bills. 3.) Alameda gets shut down for kitesurfing.
If the person responsible for injuring this little girl reads this, please take responsibility for your actions. If anyone can help identify the individual responsible, please post any information that you may have. This is a serious issue and, as I said, it is not going away. We will be providing BoardSports with the families conact information tomorrow.

I'm retracting. Sad incident no matter what the details.

Re: Little girl with smashed face at Alameda today
I'm seeing that as community we need to make it clear we stand up to make sure that this little girl gets taken care of, period. Option 3 happens if we don't take some collective accountability for our overall impact. This little girl is one of our own now. Even when (not if) the person who is responsible comes forward, I want her to know we're not indifferent to her. I think we can't afford to not do this. I think SoCal beaches have closed to kiting out of a lack of enough people doing the right thing. The public has to see us as accountable, not indifferent, or we'll start loosing our freedom to kite bit by bit.

I agree with davidllyon--funny, I just sent a PM on this subject. We should pick up the family's medical bills ASAP, and make collecting from the offending kiter our problem instead of the family's problem.

Re: Little girl with smashed face at Alameda today
Jbirdmarin,
Not sure what's "light" about this situation? I wasn't there and am just passing on what the family of the little girl told my girlfriend. The 'huge gash from mouth to ear" and "9 stitches" came from the family (godfather). I don't know the mathematics of stitches. Again, I wasn't there but other posters seem to indicate a lot of blood. Personally, I think if you smash an innocent bystander with your kite and that results in their having medical bills, you should pay for them, but that's just me. I'm not sure how paying the bills for injuries you caused could be considered irresponsible?
