point taken about launching at alameda and commenting on the wind speeds elsewhere. my comments were more general and probably should have just garnered their own thread, rather then unintentionally irritating the 3rd avenue crowd- and taking away from the great video that is posted on page one.

people sure get defensive about their wind speed opinions, though- myself included of course.

I agree with the airport readings of 40 knots gusting to 50 knots. The difference was how windy it was inside. I asked a couple of 3rd old timers and they had never seen it that crazy on the inside (NW day - I don't hang out at 3rd in the winter south winds).

But I will not kite in that kinda wind again - not much fun. May have to buy a 3.0 sail if we get more of those days...

It's what you get in your wetsuit when it gusts over 50

You guys are funny. Why not just whip 'em all out and compare sizes? No, no, no, it wasn't the windiest day ever... [-(

If the veterans say it was nukin - it was NUKIN! Cool video footage - thanks! We need to pitch in and buy you a stabilizer, but I suspect it was so windy it wouldn't have helped much.

JR, I'll be up in HR for the big swap next month. I think my friend's selling her 2.8... :)

The camera I used for this video actually has very good image stabilization, the kind that uses a sensor on the lens that senses micro motions and corrects them. It shoots the frames with extra pixels to compensate for the motion. But it could not compensate for how violently my hands and camera were being pushed around by the wind.
If you are referring to a tripod type device, yes I could use one, and yes, it would not have been stable in those winds anyway.
Ramsey, the reason the "spume" did not show, besides the limitations of my camera, is because I was focused on the action rather than the water. I probably could have captured it but I did not anticipate that the conditions would be so hotly debated.
p.s. the debate sparked by this video is hilarious. I feel like a total shit-disturber. All i gotta do is post video, sit back and enjoy the show.
