Stinson was sweet today! About 7 other kiters on the water. We got there a bit late and rode "up the beach" again. We were thinking the wind was lighter and in case it dropped we could do a downwinder. I got to test the waves for my first time today. That was both fun and scarcy as crap! :shock: The waves were over my head and for a first time I think i did alright. Nice to be back on the water two days in a row. This season is gonna rock!

Yes, I would heartily recommend OB for all-- nice and close, wide open, home of Gary Bronson!

(I just prefer the life-threatening waves further south since I aspire to tear out my fin boxes by smacking the lip...) Someday.

Plus, double-overhead whitewater is not for everybody.

Yes, Pablito, I was looking for serious boost plus wave agility in my new kites and the answer was V7. I wasn't stoked on the bow-feeling for SI and other flat spots, so I pulled the trigger.

Dave,

Would you say that the V7's are *fast* kites? Lots of depower? Good bar pressure? Lots of boost?

Yes, all of the above. However, since you're coming off of Wave-Types and I'm coming off of ZH-Types, you may feel differently. You have one of (if not THE) quickest-looping kites out there. You should demo a V7 (mine or Zeev's) to see if it's right for you. I made the choice for a "wave-bias" with the intent of trying some more difficult tricks that I was afraid to initiate on the ZH. You are looping aggressively already so may have a different set of needs.

However, the V7 is very fast through the window (key for wave riding), with bow-like depower, excellent bar-pressure (and feedback) and jumps with some REAL snap.

I have jumped some of the current bow kites and they just feel a bit too lazy for me. Soft and lofty on the bows/hybrids but true throttle-response on the V7. I'm addicted to that sensation frankly, since snatching a 250-pounder off the water is a special thing only available with kitesurfing (and reverse bungee jumping.)

I had the throw set in the "long" position where even in the gusts it would totally de-power-- you can observe the pressure on the backside of the kite increase as your arms go all the way out, just like on the bows. I think I'm going to shorten that a bit for everyday riding since I like more power than most when riding "against the knot". For days like yesterday though it was very comforting. I'm guessing it was gusting to the mid-30s or so in the early afternoon.

If you haven't committed to the T8 yet, ride this thing. I think you will like it a lot.

Also, there's a pretty good review of the newest "freestyle kites" in the online mag from the UK-- iksurfmag or something like that. Read it for some more insights in side-by-side testing. (Something the American mags are too chicken-shiz to do.) When's the last time you read a dirt bike mag without some honest gear reviews from a cross-section of riders? Don't get me started...

I am curious how it compares to 06. Undisclosable sources have mentioned its no where as good a kite in comparison to last years Vegas.

t-8 should be here soon....should be a fun kite. Where they hit the shores, I will be representing at the beach....Although the new instinct looked pretty nice in the snow, as well as up at Ft. Point yesterday with Chip laying it down in the nice waves at the s. tower...

That was sooo fun...something about that butter water when the swell is overhead...

Yuri - your sources need to put downt the pipe......just kidding. Having the distinct pleasure of riding both kites, back to back, I can attest to the fact that the V7 is every bit as good as the V6.

Construction - battens are thicker and less likely to break when you drop the kite. The kite is wider, and feels like it turns a bit more. Feels higher aspect, and definately rips you off the water a bit more then the V6.

Flying - definately faster through the window, due to shorter lines, wider bar and a bit wider construction on the kite.

Power - smooth as butter, and plunty of it......great depower, and steers a bit better then then V6 when fully depowered.

Don't take my word for it. Fly it yourself. Any time you see me on the coast/bay/river, just ask.

I never base my purchases on one source, especially since I havent tried myself. I know for a fact that I am going to get a Rhino or a rebel just because of the extra low end, but curious if they made a kite that was actually better than the V6 this year. Thanks for the review. Hopefully a North demo day will come soon, very soon.
