you don't have to spit negativity at the shack every third post to promote your spot
just pimp your spot and let the negativity go

like you always say, share the stoke and not the hate

Charlie, WTF?! When did you become the overly sensitive Alameda shack rEprEseNtatiVe? I have been living on the beach here for 4 years now and ever since i can say that I completely avoid the shack on busy days. But every time I go to Max's launch there is not only space but a much more laid back vibe. And this has nothing to do with the masters of the universe at Boardsports but more the fact that it is a small area packed with anxious kiters. I was there, Max was there, and most of have been there at some point. So what is the purpose in calling Max stupid based on something he did 5 years ago??? We have all done stupid things. hell, just yesterday at least 2 instructors from Boardsports had their students crash their kites right in the middle of kids playing in the water. I call that STUPID! And Jesse, this was NOT you.

So we all make mistakes and hopefully learn from them ... and then sometimes do more stupid things. In the long run we are all in the same family and worship the same winds.

Hello cdog,

That is just not true?? I made the choice not launch my Cuz MikeC.,who I just got off the phone with and he would like to speak with you about what you say was a teaching event at the shack?

This was in 2005 when I was still kiting there and Mike called me up on the phone and asked me for a Launch.. I told him it was a south wind and it was not a good idea for him to kite in these winds. He had givin' me a thumbs up to launch him when a gust hit so I put the kite back down and said no way bro.. you ran over and yelled and I quote; "The man asked you to Launch him so launch him" I told you I would not launch him as I didn't think he could handle the gusty wind, so I put the kite back down and you yelled "your in the box now launch him" so I did and he got yarded across the launch site.. just missing the shack. you then ran over and told me "if I can't follow the rules to take my bro.. kiting somewhere else.. I said I did nothing wrong, as I did not want to launch him doe to the gusty southerly winds.

I asked Mike if he would back up my story and he said he would and I also asked him if this was a 100% the way he remembered it?? he said "Yes it was" and he would give it to me in writing.

Mike is now an OB local and would like to thank everyone at Shellgate "Max's Launch" for the stoke that lives in his heart today as he will never forget how ReyR. and others helped him here in Alameda.

My feeling was that you "framed" me and I lost my dignity to kite there anymore as I felt uncomfortable with someone yelling incorrect commands at myself and fellow kiters.

:)
This must be the IKO kiteboarder handbook, now in it's 5th edition. 80+pgs
Basically it's a recap of the IKO lesson plan level 1(newbie)-3(independant/safe kiter)
It's a great learning aid that refreshes the memory of the lessons, to the new to the sport student.

Look what you've done, Man! Or, Look what you've done, Woman! Your very first post, you have stirred up touchy emotions. Can we all get along (board)? or a paddle board? (with optional rollerblades?). Let's keep politics away from joyride's post and see if we can lend a hand instead.

What to do:
1) When you first go to a new launch site, bring a cooler full of beer (watch out for the park ranger and cops though), water and drinks. This will endear everyone and people will give you all the advice you need and give you plenty of room, trust me, I've done this before and works all the time.

2) Read the first couple of posts
https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... f=1&t=7387

3) Don't go cheap on a life vest or a knife, I just got myself a new dive knife that will make any knife afficionado salivate:
https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... f=1&t=8449

What not to do:
Don't piss of other kiters and endanger beach goers
1)
https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... f=1&t=8355

2) Don't kite if your guts tell you not to kite:
https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... 02&p=53109

3) Use a go joe instead of a board leash if you are afraid of losing your board:
https://www.bayareakiteboarding.com/for ... bie#p49731

-----------
Although minimal, we have had a number of deaths already, so please try not to be a statistic:
1) Ocean beach, latest one.
2) Santa Cruz, some high school kid bought a C kite and slammed his head on the rocks without a helmet.
3) Some dude at the river (although his death was probably indirect and took awhile)
4) Kite Mayor of 3rd, drowned while he was trying to rescue his gear.

Anyway, good luck to you.

Anyone have advice on what gear to get, types of kites, bars, wetsuits etc...where to find good deals on gear, where to start kiting, rules/general etiquette to follow, and especially what not to do???
Thanks!!!
