"Newbie's imagin if you will - your up on your board a gust hits, you superman into the water for 20 yards, your board pearls, but it has to follow you due to the leash, now your board pops out of the water like it's been shot from a sling shot aimed at the back of your head."
Also imagine your leash wrapping around your waist, neck or leg as you are bobbing in the water. Suddenly your kite powers up and your board tombstones. Not a good feeling. Stay away from leashes and body drag. I carry around an extra static line on my harness to hook up to my board in the event of a self rescue.
Just like the Crissy Berkely down winder triathalon. Bus ride, kite, and self rescue.

forgot to metion to count your "second" while goin on one direction each. count 20 left, 20 right 20 left, and so on while zig-zagging. By that you wount get out of the line of your board. This is eapecially helpful if you have quite a distance to fill after a messed kite loop for example.
Stay safe, G

Could you bring your's to the beach so we could suction the boards out from riders as they go by. (That's the real reason we don't want you guys to put a leash on your board)
