Re: Alameda daily go/no go
After a week or so of logging your sessions in Alameda, this is what your log book is probably gonna look like:
Monday:
Go, best session ever in Alameda!
Tuesday:
Go, ..., maybe, ...., eh, good enough....goodness, glad I went.
Wednesday:
I went, rigged, launched, wind shut down ... kite crashed in the water, dang, I should have stayed home/work/hung out with buddies/girlfriend/wife
Thursday:
No Go
Friday:
No Go
Saturday
Maybe, but too lazy to go at this point because wind not enough, ... Alameda sucks...
Sunday:
Ah crap, why did I not go?
I don't have a Facebook or Twitter account, but I think BoardSports posts daily go/no go comments if you follow and be part of their groupie, do they still do that?

BoardSports still do that, but usually it is from one source. I just want human insight with more details, not just low to mid teens kind of info. Wind direction and how much gusts. I am waiting for the summer thermals to start, because even on the days when we have wind it feels like the spring days wind.

Re: Alameda daily go/no go
The last two days were good. I went on Saturday and the wind was great - steady, strong and with good direction. Today looks like one of those super gusty days, so be extra careful launching the kite and be ready to punch out. Maybe no go if you are still working on your launch, or don't have a small kite. Not a good day to practice your kite launching skills.

NOAA shooting for 40 knot gust, probably means we are gonna have 30-35 mph gust in Alameda, bring your 5 meter or 7 meter if you have them for this afternoon, otherwise please stay on the sidelines if the wind start gusting and you don't have a small kite in reserve.

Re: Alameda daily go/no go
Today was a gusty day with a very strong wind. I left the beach at around 4pm, when "let's learn to launch in a high gusty wind" crowd showed up. The wind was 30 mph gusting to 36 mph. I saw one butchered launch, one kite in a tree and one almost butchered launch that was saved by two instructors - all happened during 30 minutes time frame. Mistakes are the same most of the time:
1. Kite is too far upwind and not filled and when released tumbled back
2. Choking the kite - kites don't like that and get angry.
3. Bringing the kite to 12 right after launch (unless you are launching away from the water)
I was surprised how many people don't know how to launch the kite properly before going in high gusty winds. I hope that nobody got hurt - it looked really sketchy today.

Re: Alameda daily go/no go
Agree with the above. I saw at least three extremely dangerous launches that all could have ended badly. One issue is absolutely lack of experience but the other is plain and simple poor kite etiquette. It was a very busy day and there were kites sprawled all over the launch area that were clearly not prepping for launch. This forces launching kiters to launch on top of your idle kite and if trouble occurs, not clear runway but instead an obstacle course to run. It also forces kiters into dangers launch areas to the left and right. Let's all try to treat the launching area as exacting that. If you are not launching, roll up your lines and please move your kite to the lawn. Yours and your fellow kiters safety truly depend on it. Another serious accident would be horrific and could very well end kiting in this wonderful park.
