Horrible news. Condolences to his family and friends.

I didn't know Royce particularly well, but I'm guessing he would want people to go out and have a great session while thinking of him. I'm dedicating my next session in his memory.

RIP, Royce.

Very sorry to hear this news. Royce has been a solid supporter of the kite community for quite a while now and has had a positive impact on the sport locally with his continued efforts in promoting safe instructions and local access. Sincere condolences to all family and friends. *&HN

So sad and shocked to hear this. Royce was a big presence in the kiteboarding community here in the East Bay. My thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

Just read the news, couldn't believe it. I was just talking to him a few days ago. 47 years old--geez. If anyone gets details on a viewing or funeral, please post here.

Sad. Royce was always at toll plaza, and even if you weren't taking lessons with him, he wanted to make sure people were kiting safely. I remember taking snowkiting lessons with him in Tahoe.

Sad sad sad news for the kite community.
I wasn't close to him but I've met him on several occasions.
For those of you who didn't know him, he's directly responsible for ikitesurf installing a sensor at toll plaza, organizing beach cleanings there as well, and of course, teaching hundreds of people our love to the sport.
We need more active people like him.
RIP Royce.

Excellent points, Vincent. Royce was a big adventurer in terms of new kiting spots, especially in the bay. In addition to being a big proponent of the Toll Plaza as a kite spot and instrumental in getting the iKite sensor installed there, as far as I know, he was one of the main instigators of the spot in San Leandro off Lewelling, where KGB taught early on. I was always impressed when Royce would come up with a new spot, never settling for the 'normal'.

RIP
