when to release your edge?
dont release your edge, at frist let the kite pull you off the water
then you can get the pop part down were you might jump then send it for big ins!

The key to big jumps is "fast hands". Yank that damn bar as fast as you can and you will go bigga' --guaranteed. Timing is key (as already noted) but consider the fast hands approach. Works for me.

What is the best way to release the edge ... by extending the ankles?

no just hold the edge so the kite can pull you right off of it
when your ready try to judge ,a jump or pop to send it !!
that can get some big ns
i think you want to relese the edge fast .
if that part slows down then you get low, long ,puffs.

When you're learning to jump, it helps to have some nice little swells to ramp off. Just turn your board up onto the swell, then send the kite and pull in your bar at the same time. You should get some vertical that way.
Learning to "pop" off your edge takes a little longer -- you need to be really powered up and going fast and hard on your edge. Plus, if there is any chop, it's much harder to hold the edge long enough. On butter flat water with lots of wind, it's much easier. You won't be finding any of that around here any time soon....

Dude,
I didn't know Kevin was Consumer. Nice wind yesterday! Kinda crowded at the launch, though.
Add me to the list of people who don't get the winter butter joke...
