My new Cabrinha kite with Recon 2, considered a "leash-less" locked-in system, works okay, but I've heard enough stories about harness breakage and other types of QR failures to make me consider adding my own kite leash to it. Even though it's an important piece of safety equipment, I feel like this is a last-resort option that I should be able to homebrew, safely, for little cash. But, I can't google much of anything on the net about the right way to make one of these. So I bought some rope from Hope Depot, with a couple of snap hooks tied at each end:
One end goes to the loop on the side of my Da Kine harness, the other to the metal loop on the steering line.
I've got a bunch of concerns w/ this... the rope could never be cut w/ my harness knife, the snap hooks probably couldn't be released under load, and fastening this to my harness doesn't seem as good an idea as fastening it to my wrist, with velcro (but dammit, I can't find a velcro clasp anywhere on the net, am i dum?).
Whaddaya think, back to the drawing board?
