I dont mind the ramps but there might be a better spot to put them. Its nice to have the flat water to try new unhooked tricks. While sloughslut is right about all the trash at Sherman Ragmans right that we should try to remove the sliders that are submerged. I hope we (Kiters) are better at cleaning up our trash than the fisherman.
P.S. I was riding when the gangs were shooting up the parking lot. We could here the shots out in the water. It was a light day and the beach was full of trashy people leaving a mess for Bob and Mina to clean up.

Re: Broken Toys @ Sherman.
I found the fat guy on the surf board short tacking between the thulies to be much more in the way. Surprised the heck out of me when I was headed in the same direction he was moving and he turned right in front of me. Thought it was an accident like maybe he just didn't see me but he just continued to make short tacks right in front of the sand for like an hour. Like to bury him in the sand or tow him out and set him adrift.
I was thinking about using Greg's tower to snap some pics behind second island. Would it be ok If I pull my boat (small skiff) up on the sand @ the North end for a short while. It will sit behind the thulies within 15 feet of dry sand. Hopefully some guys will hit the kicker while I'm there. Nice high res. pics provided to participants. :)

Many imply that there may be a better place for them but there really isn't, unfortunately.
Those of us who ride it could also claim that pulling hooked in whip tricks are more suited to ramping off the chop in the middle of the channel.
The fact of the matter is- is that the kicker resides in a small portion of the flat in comparison with how much area there is.
Those who use it should put it back. Occasionally, people don't or maybe the wind/current drags it out ? In any case it can be very easily moved. I find it hard to believe that people who toiled through learning kiting, and managing their time/finances/relationships enough to spend days at the delta , can't fathom how to drag an anchor a couple feet in shallow water.

"best flatwater in the bay area" might be a bit of an overstatement.........

The toys were built to help build a new wake community and add a level of safety to the LZ by drawing the crazy's and photographers out to the island (in flat water and offshore, so riders are safer after crashing)...
but all this has been an utter failure-
-so, There is another spot to put it.... it's called the LANDFILL!
(Perhaps the seagulls will use it as a nesting ground)
Thanks to all the riders and supporters over the years!
Peace, (out)

Work is going well today...I'm in a good mood...I think i'll check the forums to see if a clean-up crew is being organized...WHOA!!!!! I stepped in a hornets nest!!!!
I am sorry I pissed so many of you off. It wasn't my intent. I just wanted to clean up the island and I guess I got carried away. I really have no problem with the ramp and slider if they are being used, I just haven't seen anyone using them this year so I figured the interest wasn't there. My bad.
My apologies again. Sherman is a cool place to kite and I don't want to stir up any animosity there.

Hay- No animosity here! I'd like your help cleaning up the island....
I've tried to move the slider peices but they are REALLY HEAVY! Like a 6 man job..
The kicker is pretty trashed and it's mostly just a water hazard to many riders,( people I DONT want to see hurt,) so I'll tow that to shore and perhaps fix it, perhaps trash it... (I'v got 2 other sick spots I could place it) Really depends on my mood that day--------
Anyway dont feel bad for trying to help out,.... your damned of you do and your damned if you dont....
Personally I'd rather see someone do something wrong (and try to make it right) then do nothing at all-

PS- the houseboat is just a dream- (though I'm sure it would be a nightmare to some) O:)
Three stories, 100' floating dock going to the island, 20'( LZ) platform floating behind it, parked right off MY island....

For sure.... Marina bay has a mile of butter to start with. You can get some sweet flatwater at some other secret spots on offshore days which not may people will kite. Thats why they call em secretes. I saw Live2Kite built a slider! Its lurking in their parking lot ready to be deployed!ramsey wrote:"best flatwater in the bay area" might be a bit of an overstatement.........
As for the Ramp.... get that shit out of there or fix it up. Its a PIECE OF SHIT... my old skate ramp that I built when I was eight was cleaner. Its got a flap floating off the front, its suken into the sand like to boat, and not a soul hit it all last weekend. Just hook a tow line up to it, take it to the back of the island and light that shit on FIRE!

Re: Broken Toys @ Sherman.
Greg has made a lot more of an effort to try to support the wake movement, so he deserves credit for all the selfless, hard work and expense he's put into it with very little help from anyone else. I haven't used it, but know and appreciate what went into it to make it happen. My only beef with it was that, despite some optimistic claims by its some users, most people didn't do anything to manage it - bring it out, use it, put it away. I'm sure that's something that most parents taught their kids, right? If you use something, put it away.
Greg, let me (us) know when you need some help on a normal weekend (not windless and 100F, please) and I can make some time to help out with what needs to be done. Shovels for island and for when it gets back to land, I can bring a generator if needed and sawzall, other tools, etc.

It wasn't before - very little help from the community and neglect has deteriorated it to the state it's in now.
