Glad this was a joke. I didn't want to have to drive all the way up there just to launch illegally ON PURPOSE! :)

Re: New kiting policiess in effect at Alameda's Crown Beach.
I live 10 minutes from Crown Beach now, moved back 3 weeks ago. Here are my experiences of kiting at Alameda, having not kited here since I learned to kite 4 years ago:
1. The Boardsports folks have been just fine. No problems, helpful, generally provide some order to the madness. Most of the rules make sense to me.
2. There are alot of helpful, cool people that kite here, but there are also quite a few older, crusty a@@holes that launch and land here. Super entitled, typically still learning, doing everything with a frown or scowl on their faces. Bitching and complaining about everything. If you are not having fun, go do something else that makes you happy. Really the only downer to the place.
3. The wind has kicked ass since I moved. Solid on the 10m or 9m. Full, steady, daddy likes!
4. No current is a dream, used to kiting Sherman and constantly battling the current.
5. Downwind of the shop is some (relatively flat) water. Nice!
6. The best part, I get to kite with all my friends that rarely came out to Sherman.
This is going to be a great year.

^ I like the positive waves man. I will be there this weekend and looking forward to it. See you there. At first I thought it was no joke but by rule 5 and one post it was evident. I won't be hot launching foils this weekend.
Cheers,
Adrian
Don't hit me with those negative waves so early in the morning.

On top of it being a joke, I think that this is an impostor posting this. The real board sports school uses the handle "BoardSportsSchool" WITHOUT THE "s" at the end.
BayAreaKite - whats the site policy for impostors, if indeed it is one?

BoardSportsSchools wrote:It has come to our attention that times are changing and we must also in order to keep our sport alive and healthy. Thus, these are the new rules in effect at Crown Memorial State Beach as of today 5/25/2011:
1. All kiters must be IKO certified to level 3 riding competency in order to launch in front of the Board Sports shack. Certification will be mandatory and includes a 1 hour lesson from Board Sports (100$). You must wear your IKO certification card visibly outside your wetsuit . We will be selling ID card holders that fit on your wrist or hang around your neck.
2. No Launching upwind or downwind of the shack. East Bay Region Parks District is very strict about this one and will quickly fine kiters launching in other locales.
3. A maximum of two kites and two boards can be set up at any given time on the beach and they must remain within 50 ft of each other at all time. All kites and kiteboards must be registered through Board Sports for your own safety and security from theft.
4. Kite brands not supported by board sports will not be launched or landed. This is for your own safety – we don’t want people launching/landing dangerous equipment they shouldn’t be riding.
5.No kites at 12 O’clock ! – We have removed this time from all clocks to ensure you never put your kite there.
Thank you all for your cooperation at the Alameda Board Sports Shack! We look forward to seeing you all at our first certification meeting this weekend at 1pm.

I'm not sure whether this is a joke or not, but i'm certainly avoiding Alameda for a long time.

I guess the wind at alameda is already shutting off for the season, judging from the volume of forum posts.......
