Post by windhawk » Sun Jul 22, 2007 12:28 pm

Windwing will be in the Bay area starting Wed 25, demoing the NEW Batwings and Rampage 2s. Current schedule starts at Rio Vista on Wed., possibly Alameda on Thursday and then Crissy for the weekend. Call Boarding Bob or Noel at 541-993-9393. We'll post updated info for days after the Crissy Event.

Do U plan to stop by 3rd Avenue? May be the better idea as there is wind all the time.

Hi Steve,
We will have two teams in SF. Noel will head up a team and be at Crissy putting the Bat up in the Big Air Jam. Bob will be also there on Friday with another team and will be making side trips to nearby areas such as 3rd Ave to meet with people wanting to demo the the Bat. There will also be a day or two after the competition. WE are really looking forward to see the Bat in the Big Air Jam!

WindHawk:
It will be great to see the BatWing as part of the Big Air Wind Jam at Crissy, just not a demo day at Crissy during the event. Also, I suggest you contact Gary or TJ at Helm and get permission to demo at 3rd...Helm owns the concession there and all related kitei and windurf activities need their permission..including free demos. Same for Alameda...need to contact Boardsports school (Jane/Rebecca). If you don't, be prepared to deal with the authorities. tell Bob it will be nice to see him again

Hey Steve, I wouldn't worry too much about the demoing at Crissy. The Parks service will be present all week and any company appearing to do demos that is not specifically listed on the use permit will be sited and fined.

Visitors, please respect that Kiteboarding here in the bay area is a bit of a different nut. To do anything organized at Crissy field requires a lot of money, red tape and persistence.

Don't show up at Crissy to do demos between the dates of July 25 - 29. You will be cited, fined and lose face in this market.

Guys,

what is going on here? Do you want to tell us that ALL bay area kite beaches are licensed to some of the kite companies here in the bay?

Please also respect that the kite community (without financial interest) LIKES to have different companies out here to allow to test their products. We want to try ALL kites as one cannot rely on any pimp information.

There is clearly no need to call for tickets/citation here upfront.

Just really surprised, G

BTW, I have no conflict of interest to any company

G -

Not at all what you are getting at!

A lot of money and red tape was overcome to put on this event. If companies that are not on the permit show up and do demoes, we run the risk of losing our permit for the event. It is really tough to have a legitimate event at Crissy. We have pulled it off and the last thing we need is companies taking advantage of the work we have done and the crowd we have solicited for this event. Many companies put up money and support to make sure these events would happen and it would not be fair to them to allow others to participate...not to mention the fact that the parks won't have it.

We have to be heavily insured for this event and anyone not listed on our insurance and permit is a liability to the parks...they won't have it.

informal demos in the bay are welcome...just not during these events. We have been told that even any signage from companies not on our permit will risk shutting down our events.

Don't make this a bigger deal than it is.

Read between the lines...this original post is trolling for drama. Good marketing ploy! I'm done on this one.

I encourage everyone to come out and see what a well organized, city supported event looks like in SF. We have one of the best stages inthe world for an event like this one, and we have prepared a doozy!

Some people will always try to ride the coat tails of others efforts...some will step up and support others efforts.

It is true that most beaches are in control by some business. But it is that business' choice to call authorities.

At the same time it would not be the best decision to spontaneously integrate your demo day with another large event that has been in the works for a long time. Pursuing it further would be a foolish business decision on windwing's part. But come fly one of your kites, let people see it. We all are curious about the new stuff for '08. Just don't do it that weekend.

You've done a great job Gabe we certainly respect what it takes to get an event going. We're there to support it by entering and competing in it. For sure NOT "trolling for drama". But thanks for the heads up about the potential demo conflict. We will certainly respect this request.

I think everyone should forget the demo and just come out to Crissy to watch Noel Jambor take the Batwing into the race course. Now that's where "drama" will be found.

We not out to step on anyones toes and will find the right beaches to meet with those wishing to fly the Bat. Bob an Noel will be at Cape Sebastian this afternoon and I believe they will head down to Real Vista and then visit Rebecca and Jane who does carry Windwing products.

Here's some reviews from riders that demoed the Bat in recent days:
