I've got it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to ALL of you who called about the kite, the dolls the car seats whatever. That's what did it.

I don't think Larry or Jana had anything to do with breaking into my car. They say they bought it from a guy for $100 and I believe them. They've had lots of stuff stolen from them and they know how it feels and they were happy to sell it back to me for what they paid. And they said it was because they had soo many calls about it they figured that it was hot and they didn't want to deal with hot stuff. They said I had great friends and they're right! You guys are the best.

Charlie, you want your stuff back?

There are some anonymous people as well as everyone on the thread and I want to thank you all SO MUCH.

Also John Chao from Wind Wing. He even called. Now THAT'S customer service!

O.K. where's the wind?

were they sympathetic enough to provide any details about the guy that they bought it from and what the circumstances were?

It would be good to go after the guy who supposedly sold it to them.

I've been rethinking what just happened and the first call I made to Jana. She sounded rather arch when she said she'd save my number as "Mary" back on Tuesday. I think they knew it was hot from the beginning. But then again, maybe I'm spinning it.

I haven't decided whether to call the cops and turn in a description and where I got it back. It was just a couple of doors from where they live I'm sure. And they were very cagey about the drop. They had a kid bicycle by to check me out first and see that I had come alone. Then Jana came out with her cell phone and walked down the street, verified it was me and called her bf. Jana destracted me while Larry came out from I don't know where. They defiinitely knew what they were doing.

I'm just so happy.

Delta here I come.

Oh, and hey. Rita

Thanks for making all those calls. It'll be interesting to see if Linda ever calls me back.

La Ventana sounds like fun. See ya when you get back.

um. yeah. either they stole it or they knew it was hot from the get go. Let's see, they placed an ad on CL, which means they have internet access and that's enough to know it's worth more than $100.

these guys aren't innocent.

then again, you're lucky to have it all back! congratulations! ...

That just doesn't make any sense to me. Why would someone pay $100 for something from "some guy", when aside from the wetsuit they would have absolutely no idea of what any of it was? In my opinion, they either stole it themselves (most likely), or else they did buy it from "some guy", knowing full well that it was stolen goods, and were just looking to make some quick money off of someone else's misfortune, which is kind of strange if they had indeed had lots of stuff stolen from them. Either way, they are surely first class scumbags.

I'm sure that you are probably disillusioned with the police and tired of all the hassle, but I would encourage you to report the details of the conclusion of this fiasco to them anyway. It's very unlikely they will follow up on it, but at least they will know about it and maybe the next time these lowlifes post their stolen goods on CL, the police will remember it and be less reluctant to pursue it. But if you decide that you are simply through with it all, I certainly understand.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it all back. :) And Yuri and everyone else that offered to help are AWESOME. :)

Having had my custom glass sailboard stolen several years ago, I know, as many others on this site do as well, how much it sucks. I never did get my board back (happily, I started kiting at about the same time, so I don't miss it as much  ). While you were fortunate enough to get your stuff back, it came at the expense of $100. In effect then, you actually had $100 stolen from you, which also totally sucks. So... I would like to propose that an informal fund be set up to compensate you for your loss. I will start it off by kicking in $20. All we need is $80 more from the other fine members on this site. What do you say guys and girls? And we can either cap it at $100 (first come, first served, so to speak), or we can take any amount over $100 and put it to good use somehow in our kiting community (BBQ?, other suggestions?). Let's start the new season off with some good vibe!!!

Even "IF" they didnt steal the stuff themselves they are in on it, I suggest you report every bit of information to the police. Your report will probably stop there but it starts to build a track record for future police calls.
These "individuals" probably are just trying to make a living working from home. I'd suspect they know MANY people who sell them good stuff for WAY less then its worth. From there M.O. on this "JOB" I suspect they "might" be involved in drug dealing, dopers often "WORK" for there dealers, who knows. Just remember, each person who finally gets busted "probably" was involved in 100 times more unlawfull activity then they are being charged for.
I know you probably feel "concern" for these people, seeing how they helped you out and all... BUT, you have a DEPT TO SOCIETY, you really should report this!!
Knowing crack heads isnt a crime but buying stolen goods is..
If they are truely innocent "merchants" the police will figure that out, if not, let the cards fall as they may.
DONT BE AFRAID!! Life is way to short to live in fear.
