ride today?

Post by knyfe » Thu Jan 04, 2007 10:56 am

who will try to get a ride today? The gusts are announced to be up to 40knots, so more a warning not to go ... although NW is ideal 3rd terrain.

The webcam at Stinson shows that someone is out riding there right now.

I dropped by Alameda in the afternoon and launched Charlie and Jeff on 12's, but it looked a bit light on the inside and waaay too cold, for me at the time anyway, so I opted out. But, if it was blowing a solid 25 or 30 NW, I would have gone for it...

Glad you got some too. FWIW, Sherman Island was excellent today. Lit on a 13 with a 128. Not a bad opener for '07 IMHO. JPB was firing and the jumps were lofty. You woulda' been on a 10.

Thanks to Indian Bob for the launch and the Gods of Numbness for the successful swim back from the 3rd island. (Where is Sheldon when I need 'im?)

Coast today

Post by gideonlow » Thu Jan 04, 2007 11:00 pm

Scott Creek was nuts . . . . rideable but very gusty. Swell was double overhead+ on the outside. A few people were out. Unfortunately, I only caught a couple of waves off the point break before dropping my kite and not being able to re-launch due to the f*cked up surface winds in the big swell. Sometimes PL kites show their downside . . .

The 30 minute swim back was a real drag until a huge rainbow came out (perfectly framing Scott Creek beach) and lifted my spirits. Then I got to experience what it's REALLY like to be a helpless rag doll as I went over-the-falls on a double-overhead monster.

I owe a case of Sierra to the guy who stopped by early in my swim and took my kite back to shore! The wind was sideshore and completely releasing once I reached the impact zone would have meant $1500 down the drain.

For any PL riders reading this, I tried my homemade pulley bar for the first time today. It was a dream! 12 inches of throw gave me about 90% depower. They really should sell PL kites with pulley bars standard.

Cheers,

Gideon
