It's happening. After sunset the wind at SI popped to 20 plus. I just shut off my AC and opened the windows.

Let it rip

Post by zgur » Tue Aug 22, 2006 9:08 pm

I am sure that you know better then to trust ANY forecast for more then 48 hours????? right??? especially for wind......the only exception are wave forecasts, as they are less microclimate dependent.....

It's gonna blow. Get out there and get some!!!

Z.

As always I seem to agree with you...

Once Godsey started to make forcasts a week in advance I totally gave up on him.

I look at many things and yes I take it day by day. But I look at the local weather and temp trends and then include NOAA forcasts (day by day) and then throw in the fog time loop and forcast for SF and look at the pressure (closer to the day I want to forcast) and VOILA..

It seems to work for me and I like to think I get it correct about 60% of the time...

Don't forget to call the windline and also look at IWindsurf for yesterdays wind...

Today starts out not too good as the first thing I see is clouds in Sacto.
This is usuially a bad sign.

Then I call the windline
6:30 am it's 9 to 19 with an avr of 13

Not too good and certanly not worth a drive.

Then I look at the forcast:

SAN FRANCISCO SAN PABLO SUISUN BAY AND THE WEST DELTA- 242 AM PDT WED AUG 23 2006 ...SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM PDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING... .TODAY...W WINDS 10 TO 20 KT INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KT IN THE AFTERNOON. .TONIGHT...W WINDS 15 TO 25 KT DECREASING TO 5 TO 15 KT AFTER MIDNIGHT. .THU...W WINDS 5 TO 15 KT INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KT IN THE AFTERNOON. .THU NIGHT...W WINDS 15 TO 25 KT DECREASING TO 5 TO 15 KT AFTER MIDNIGHT. .FRI...W WINDS 5 TO 15 KT INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KT IN THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. .SAT AND SUN...W WINDS 5 TO 15 KT INCREASING TO 15 TO 25 KT IN THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

Looks OK for this afternoon but I will wait and see.

Then the pressure:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/satellite/index.php?wfo=sto

Then the pressure diff from SFO to SAC:

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sto/versprod.ph ... STO&vers=0

I see that it is .07 and I know it usuially needs to be .10 or better to bring on the "SUCK"

Then I top it off with the Discussions (SF and SCTO that is)

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/total_forecast/ ... tr&pil=afd

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sto/versprod.ph ... to&pil=afd

SO there you have my weather forcast...

The only thing that is for sure is, It will blow! (Maybe not today but soon)

Just my $ .02 worth...

I hope for light consistant days every once in a while to practice new stuff. I don't think I've had a chance to fly the 16m at Sherman yet. The wind seems to be either on or off for me. Maybe I'll be under powered on the 13m and will be able to try stuff I'm scared to do at the top of the wind range.

Basically I just hope there's some wind.

Dewey - consider today your mini christmas, as you will get the steady not top of your range wind for your 13m, and you can try new stuff.....now you know whey I like my boards on the wide/big side: this enables you to get out when it's a bit lighter, so that you can learn new things.

Have fun, and hope to see you this afternoon.

Proparoo - you will want to make the drive, it's gonna be good @ SI.

Get some, Z.
