The one thing that I used to do, helped me a lot when I was learning how to ride upwind, without a buddy system, circa 2005 or something like that.
Setup my gear at the shack.
Drive my car down all the way past the post office, and park it there.
Ride my bicycle up to the park.
Ride my kite, and try to keep upwind. I go further out where its most windy and play there.
If I get blown downwind, no worries, I end up by the post office, de-rig, drive the car back to the park.
Now, if there is more than one of you guys, you can do that multiple times...
