Move from Berkeley to Santa Cruz

Post by jwest21 » Tue Aug 26, 2014 9:07 pm

Just got offered a job down in Santa Cruz and planning to head down there in a month. I'll need to finally perfect my jibes and get ready for Waddell next season, but first priority, securing a place in the area. If anyone has got a place you're renting out, a home you love but leaving, or heard whispers of the perfect little 1 bedroom for less than 2 grand... let me know.

If it's in Santa Cruzish and allows dogs, I'm down to stay; if it's within a half hour and month-to-month I might be interested.

Thanks everyone!
Sold all my gear; ebbs and flows; see you next season.

Found a place in Pleasure Point, a block from the beach and was informed today it will be mine October 1st. Sold my kites, boards, harness, and bars today as well {}[] . Got to pick up a better surfboard to get out there until some kites fly back into my life.

Next season? The kiting season down there is 12 months of the year and fall can be epic. Why'd you sell your gear??!

It says 10M, but it's really a 9.

Yup.. Kiting season runs from January 1st to December 31st every year. To keep from kiting too much I keep a strict schedule of only kiting on days that end in "y".

Give me two months and I'll be back on here scrounging for a new deal on some Bandits... or perhaps another will steal my heart.

Also got to get myself a Wainman Joke this time around, that board is INSANE!

Tip from a former Santa Cruz resident:

There's a spot (bunch of blocks) away where you will live. It's mostly only available to locals because the sessions are short, winds would have died down by the time somebody out of town realizes its going off. The place is epic on Southerly storms. The launch is similar to Berkely, a small patch of beach. Its a tough access due to parking regulations (strictly resident permit parking only), but should not be a problem for you. You will see what I'm talking about when you see kiters rig and go.

Keep your surfboard, since you will probably be surfing more than kiting if you live there.

A few months longer than expected but I'm on the hunt for kites! I'd also love to replace my extremely old surfboard with something I can use with or without a kite. Hit me up if you got something.
