Alameda on '3rd-down-days'?

Post by charliexd » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:20 pm

Hey guys,
I'm relatively new to kiteboarding but I think I'm a pretty solid intermediate rider? Anyhow, with pretty pathetic days at 3rd Ave this past week, I'm dying to get out on the water. Some of the guys at the 3rd Ave. parking lot said they were heading off to Alameda, but I was hesitant to head over there.
Any advice on what Alameda riding is like? Crowded or not?
Are there any cams or weather sites like the arbor-studios one for 3rd Ave?

thanks.

Yeah, the lack of wind in Alameda in a normal summer is well-known, but with our unusual weather/deep marine layers there have been a few days when it's been at least rideable and the peninsula has had less than its usual stellar summer conditions.

Having said that, Alameda is always a crap shoot at best - recent relevant discussion:

Yes, it can be crowded (i.e. yesterday), but water is shallow, beach is long and it's usually sunny. Webcam and twitter feed on conditions at:

Based on your location, guessing that the delta is farther away, but if you're an intermediate kiter it's worth it...
