From the NWS for the Bay, late Saturday...

"se winds 30 to 40 kt with occasional gusts to 50 kt"

Is that really kiting weather for Alameda or should I work on taxes? Local experts, please provide guidance. My first thought is "too dangerous". You goin'?

I dunno, with exceptions, NWS' 50knts normally means a nice 25knt day at alameda. With exceptions though. I know they nailed it the last few storms, so maybe they will be right again. But with our nice little protected bay we may get some nice buffered winds.

As long as you got the right size kites, Alameda is usually ridable in storms. It is pretty rare that it is too windy to kite but it does happen. Typically it just blows too hard for a little bit and then it dies off enough to ride again or it is just too late and dark anyway.

Bring a 10, 9 or 7 depending on your size and skill but I typically pack a 12 in the car as well cause you never know and it aint worth getting in that wet suit and cold water and be on a kite that is too small.

Considering the current forecast for the wind direction on Saturday, is Alameda the only option to go?
What about pacific coast spots or 3rd Ave?

please be careful out there this weekend. If the colors are right many of us should not be kiting at all! Let's live to kite another day. I actually dont think i have ever seen this color on ikite before :) normally they forecast the storms lower than they actually are. this is forecast in pink at 40!
