Crown Beach (Alameda) kiting access is threatened. According to park officials, the number of incidents have reach the point where injuries are likely and some changes are needed.
The proposed alternatives include:
a) complete closure for kiting (windsurfing would still be OK)
b) only allowing professional lessons with strictly enforced in and out zones
c) enforcing some form of certification and limits as to where you can go in and out
d) continue as is but with a higher entrance fee for kiters to pay for a ranger over the weekends
More details should be available mid next week after the next hearing. Until then, the beach is closed.
Have a great weekend :(

Good thing I got 1 last awesome day in today. I did a kiteloop 10' from shore and i think I knocked a baby out of it's stroller. Pretty sure it was an ugly baby though so shouldnt be an issue. The mom was such a nag "look what you did!" "my baby!" I think she might have been a scam artist because she kept asking for my drivers license # and insurance. Good thing it was windy though as I was able to speed off too fast for her look at my face.

Hello Kiters,
If you can't find access anywhere else you can always launch at "Maxwells Beach" because the "Shoreview Condominiums" owns the land to the waterline?? now the only issue with this is the EBRParks dudes have to take care of the Toilets so if there dirty don't call me.
I have reached an agreement with the city council to charge a small fee to "Non- kiters" this way we can send the speedo gang down to "Yuri's Beach" there is more room down there and it is free of charge to date.
All maxypadds must be placed in the dump area's downwind of all kiters as this will upset the kiters session on windy days.
If you are a new kiter you must keep Hello butt up by the shack!! if you don't know where this is call Jane or Rebecca and they will give you a lesson or two..bring Hello money or gold, ring's or card all are welcome at the shack.
Good Winds...Max

dont know what that means. But it definitely isnt the kite if anything is holding me back. Probably just being lazy and or fluky/strong wind. I am getting old. Also I am learning to fly a kite with normal length lines again. I love how much more tolerance there is jumping. Anyways, thanks/no thanks

Re: Alameda access issues ...
It is a wierd thing to get SOO used to a certain length line. I used to jump with my kite really low to the water. Because the response was so fast I could see the jump and time it perfectly by just flying the kite up real fast. but with longer lines you get pulled off your edge more as you jump this way so it doesnt get the same vertical yank. But I find if i actually strt with the kite a little higher, like 45 deg. I can still get the yank by using the additional arc time given with the longer lines. Regardless it is a re-training of muscle memory more than a kite characteristic. truthfully, because the Obsession is a bridled kite and does have longer lines I actually feel more comfortable going higher because it lets me down softer. I think the obsession gets higher lift but not the same glide as the rebel. It's a small difference but noticeable. Kinda fun learning all over again.
