Cassidy Imaging Will Be Returning To Alameda
I'm planning on being out at Alameda this Sunday afternoon, September 6, 2009
Last time I was out at Alameda, the wind was great, there were a lot of kiters out, and there was plenty of potential for some really killer shots.
HOWEVER...
I have had trouble communicating to the kiters, the best way to get a great shot. So I have decided to try to post some tips to see if we can't make photo magic.
1) When I am photographing from the water, I am using a wide angle lens. This means that you will need to approach me (down wind of me please) at a distance of 10-15 feet. I will dive underwater if necessary, so don't be too shy. Keeping downwind of me also keeps the sun to my back, so it kills two birds with one stone.
2) If you are confident that you will not land on my head, feel free to jump, throw down your sickest moves, or whatever. Most of the great pictures include the kiter looking directly into the camera.
3) Keep in mind that kiters will be coming from both directions (from the beach, and toward the beach) so keep your eyes open and stall at the beach if necessary (and only if possible)
4) Finally, please don't approach me if there is any question as to your ability keep both of us safe.
It's actually been great so far, and I've only had one close call. See you in the water.

Shawn doesn't and isn't riding slingshot.
Also, as for wind at alameda, especially during crowded weekends like labor day, or as we call it, international diaper day, the beach is really a bad place for kiters. Also, the winds this time of year suck. You are so much better off at a windy spot.
my $.02

Slingshot??? :-k
Forecast is 18mph between 2pm and 6pm. I expect more like 12-14. Anyway, I'm planning on being there because, regardless of whether or not it is a good time for kiters to be there or not, the fact is that they will be there. And I plan on continuing to give them the opportunity to get photos of themselves doing what they love to do, where they love to do it.

Dont get me wrong. i wasnt trying to rain on your parade. i was worried it might have come accross that way. But in general the scene during labor day and 4th of July is bad news for kiters here-normally.
Regardless, it probably will be good wind as i cant go!!! argh!

I did not post the photos from the downwinder. There was talk of them being used in an article, but since I'm sure that is no longer probable, I'll work on getting them up. I'll probably post them here if I can, because I don't really want anyone to have to pay for those unless they want a physical print made. I apologize that I did not get them posted sooner, but I started a new day-job and it's been tough adjusting to this whole "work" thing. lol
No worries. I didn't take it as you raining on my parade, I just want to get back out there, and this is the first opportunity I have had in a while. More people on the beach may make for a better shot too, we'll see.
P.S. Like how I cleverly took out the Slingshot logo? It was only there because the photo was taken at the Slingshot demo. Not an ad for them, or for Sean.

Hello Chris,
Nice to see you and the wife out here today "Thank You" !!! you always make it fun and safe swimming out so far in the bay.
I hope your OK?? after your close call with one our Crew, I was told you duck dove right before he came a bit close..I ask all kiters Please!! if you want Chris to get a close shot of your moves, keep in mind this is a photographer not a "Bouy" he does want you to get "Close" to get a killer shot, as you will have to look at the camera lens as you throw your move.
http://www.cassidyimaging.com you can check out other kiters shots, and ask those kiters how to approach the zone safely. don't stop next to him out in the water, to ask him how to do this?? as other kiters are coming at him from the "Right" and "Left" and he has to position himself for the shot, and if your there with your kite at 12??, there is no way any other kiter is going to approach the zone for a pic if your there with a kite that could drop on them as they pull the trigger on there move.
Max be with you "
