Hi everyone!
Does anyone know of a place or a person who offers a land or a land/water lesson in the winter? I know, i know...i should be more patient for the spring....but i am officially obsessed and absolutely must fly. i saw that boardsports school offers their spring-fall, but I will keep checking...

Trainer kite, trainer kite, trainer kite...we are talking flying right handed, left handed, eyes closed, behind your back, while eating a sanduiche good...That will put you way ahead of the game by the time the weather is favorable and our awesome instructors have crawled out of hibernation or back from where iy is warm and windy.

The problem with trying to learn in the winter is that there is not much wind this time of year in the bay area. The storm winds are not the winds you want to be learning on.

if you are totally hooked than the winter is the time for snow kiting. check out wind over water all inclusive trips to skyline. the web address is www.wowkite.com you will have a blast

Trainer kite, trainer kite, trainer kite...

Winter is perfect to prepare yourself for water practicing in spring. The winds are good enough for a trainer kite. Just make sure your trainer kite is as close to the real kite as possible.

Snowkiting is not a good option for beginners in my opinion. Despite all advantages, it is simply not as safe as the water. Yet you'll hear snow schools saying not only snowkiting is safe, it is THE SAFEST way to learn - the biggest myth.

I learned to kiteboard first on snow. The learning curve was extremely quick because I didn't have to learn to water start... with snowkiting, you're already on the surface (except for deep powder). I did master my trainer kiter well before going out for my first time with a bigger kite on snow, but it allowed me to be way more comfortable and helped reduce the learning curve. The nice thing about snowkiting is you can self-teach yourself fairly safely, but I would recommend hooking up with Jeff at WOWkite. He's a pro at snowkiting and has all the best equipment... you just need to sign up and show up. The best part about snowkiting is once spring comes, you'll have a REAL fast learning curve when you transition to water.

I strongly beg to differ! Maybe learning on an ice covered lake isn't the smartest thing to do, but I know from my personal experience that snowkiting is generally safer to learn than water. I can give several reasons for why it's safer, but I'm not here to start a debate. There's plenty of beta available online about the pros and cons of learning to kite on snow first... Google away!
