If you use google earth and look at the river on the east side of the Antioch bridge you will see a huge light colored area maybe 200 yards wide and 500 to 1000 yards long. This is what we call the kite bar. On low tide it is knee to waist deep soft sandy bottom and weed free. On high tide it can be chest high. So when yur traveling north over the antioch bridge to sherman island and look east and see kites - thats me my gang. Yesterday afternoon was mostly high tide so we launched at point oakley which is just about 1/2 mile south of the kite bar - tucked into big break - it also has nice sandy bottom and offers some of the glassiest water you will ever kite - but is a little weedy at low tide. Thanks to everyone who viewed and enjoyed the vid clip BTW you wont find those names on the map - I found these launches after searching for a long time, the first to kite there, so those are the names i gave to these launches.

Last week me and Kevin Cliff were at the kite bar on low tide. So we are standing there watching this sheriff boat come whizzing down the river and WHAM they hit a high point and they were stuck...and they wern't going in the water in uniform.....So we started walking towards them and to our surprise we walked all the way out in the middle of the river and actually pushed them off - someone took pictures but never saw in paper. That was on a minus tide.

I'll let kevin tell you what happened yesterday

Kiting in Oakley at the bridge

If you saw kites - it was us. if you ever see kites east of the bridge it's me (and my gang). So far we're the only ones to kite there. The day Jake did the downwinder I took out my boat and waverunner which was cool cause we used the boat as base camp and the waverunner to run around. Usually we just take the boat, i have a high power pumping system onboard and we can pump a kite per minute or so. We use the boat and kite anchors to tie off to and set up lines most the time. Setting up in the water can be tricky, but I have been doing it for several years and it can be done very quickly with practice. It was nuken today in Oakley but had no one to kite with, sometimes i do go alone but i prefer to have a buddy or 2.

That place looks great. I'm in the process of teaching my 12 year old daughter and this sounds like a perfect place for her to learn.
