The video should be called:
[-X "DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME" [-X
Wow, he really puts it into perspective. And I worry so much about launching a Sherman,,, Ok, I would say that no one in their right mind should try something like that / Urban Kiteing, but it makes my wonder? Is it raleey as dangerous as we all think? I still think so but how can he be dealing with buildings, street signs, cars ect. and apparently just treat it like no big deal?
I remember back to the Scott Schmitt days, when he was "Da Man" and we all thought it was only a matter of time before his number was up. Now we look back to extreem Skiing, Boarding, Moto and shake our heads....
So I ask, whats the reality? I guess only time will tell...
Till then I will stay as safe as I can and try not to get killed.

I have two comments:
1) Is he is riding hooked in or unhooked? He's wearing a harness but it looks like he's unhooked. I'm not sure which one is more dangerous or less dangerous. But he does get his kites for free. If he lets it go and it wraps around a building, he gets a new one.
2) The electric and phone lines (who cares about phone lines, really, it's the electric lines that will kill you) whereever this video was shot are underground, unlike most places in NorCal. There are, however, plenty of streetlights in attendance.
It looks like hella fun to me, and I admit to having fantasized about this sport several times.

It says 10M, but it's really a 9.

Is kiting REALLY dangerous, THAT is a good question.
Here's my two cents:
Man it seems has allways wanted to fly. In the last century man has stayed aloft for extencive periods of time. We've gone to the Moon and we've flown around the Earth in all sorts of aircraft. Using gliders and para-gliders we've learned to stay aloft with only our bodies and BRAINS.
My father who studied aeronautical engineering was an Airforce fighter pilot, test pilot, bomber pilot and has done small aircraft of all kinds is a VERY sain guy but lives to fly... My father explained flyings REAL danger to me while I was very young, he explain in very simple terms. ARE YOU READY???: "planes are designed to fly but they are only built to accomidate landing", seems simple and it is..
He might have explained this to me right after I won the race to be fastest down the pole while playing Batman and Robin by turning the game into SUPERMAN instead. Sure enough, I broke my arm winning that game but I learned a valuable lesson, CHOOSE A SUITABLE LANDING STRIP BEFORE TAKING OFF!
Kiting is much the same, it will be WHAT YOU MAKE IT. If you want to have fun, choose wizely, remember, WHAT YOU DONT KNOW MIGHT KILL YOU. Pick your playground, pick your playmates, pick your toys, PICK YOUR TIME. There is a time and a place for almost anything but there is danger in almost EVERYTHING.
THIS SPORT WILL BE WHATEVER 'WE MAKE IT".
Enjoy,

Kiting is dangerous if you aren't very good at focused multi-tasking, or if something goes wrong with your gear or if you are kiting upwind of immobile objects (like in this video.) Is it as dangerous as being a bush pilot in Alaska? A motorcycle racer (or wanna-be)? Probably not, but it's the constant evaluation of risk-versus-reward that keeps us healthy and able to ride the next session. Old people understand this.
Since street-kiting doesn't even look that fun, we'll leave it to Ruben! He doesn't seem that concerned. Then again, if you would have told me that Carey Hart would be back-flipping his motocross bike, say 10 years ago, I would have been skeptical. Makes the Knievel Family look kinda' lame, huh? It's only extreme until everybody's doing it! Now get out there and kite today! I'd like to try Lombard Street since it's the equivalent of wave-riding I'm guessin'. See you all there around noon for a sesh?
Bring your pads...
 ](*,)
