Is that FOG???

Post by zgur » Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:49 pm

So while I'm sweating my butt off in a Yoga class, I notice that the leaves outside the studio are moving with some vigor. After class, which was insanely good, I see that sherman and berkely are blowing.......

Right now the delta is reading 19........

Nice little marine push.......

Who go it????

Get some, Z.

I am surprised there werent more people at Alameda today. I had a great session with my girl-who desperately needed ,and deserved, some. Some one else popped up at the shack a little later, dont know who though. Maybe some more soon?

I was wondering the same thing. I got back home from an early morning delivery to the Bay and it was like 70 degrees here, and a breeze was blowing from the south. I thought "Could we have a mini-summer pattern in the middle of winter?"

Forecasts were calling for today to be the windiest, with valley fog tomorrow, which would shut down the westward flow, I think. But I'm gonna keep my eye on Ikite anyway.

If it was going to happen, it would be nice if it turned on before sunset, though. Although the days are getting longer, too.

the 5 day forcast went from good to shite a few days ago.
yesterday was spot on 5-10, so I went Bonefishing...
So as I sit here this morning my gal walks in and says, "its blowing", my responce is "thats not wind" to which she says "well maybe you can fly two".
Humm that got me thinking  , I havent stacked kites in years, maybe todays the day.. :P
8 and 10 is 18m, right? :-k Spread'm out 10m, maybe toss in an extra 25m line set to reach the jet stream :supz: , use the long bar for extra throw :tonqe: and ride a surfboard so I dont have to swim with the fishies for 6 hours 8-[ trying to get his HUGH THING airborn again.

A couple years ago on Maui we had some light Kona winds in Kihei and Greg Drexler stacked a 12 on top of a 16 and went out on a surfboard for a bit. It was pretty weird to see the big kites stacked like that and actually flying. Launching was tricky, though.

Speaking of Kona winds, they've had nuking Kona winds from the south for the last few days. I looked yesterday and it was averaging 40 in Kihei with gusts to 45. Unkiteable, basically. There may have been a windsurfer or two out, but I doubt any kites. Too much can go wrong too fast with that kind of wind...

How about that video on the Ozone website where a guy ties kite lines onto the ends of his friends paraglider, and kiteboards using the paraglider (while his friend is riding it).

I call anything over mid 30's survival kiting, not much fun but it is exciting...
For me the best kiting is well-powered 10m stuff on a mid size kite-board (mid 20's), mid/upper twentys with a 8m on a surfboard (in surf) is REALLY FUN!! :supz:

I agree, well-powered but nmot totally lit an 8, 10 or 12 in 18-28 is perfect... and YES, the survival kiting is exciting, but not the perfect freestyle soul session!
