Alameda wind, 11/8/06? weds.

Post by K. Cliff » Fri Nov 10, 2006 6:06 pm

Can you (or somebody) please send me a read out of what the actual wind was out at Alameda 11/08. I got there at 12:30 pumped up a 16.5 and rode until the sun went down. I made a mental note of when That kite's range was too extreme and would like to cross referance that to a wind chart. Man that was nice. anymore this weekend? Thanks Kev......

dont know if that link will work if you are not a memeber but try it. I was on a 8 and a 10 and lit! 16.5 seems dangerous. That must be flat area.

Also, Alameda reads high. The sensor is in a spot that gets an accurate reading but not the same wind we see when we are out there. This is especially true in the light winds. So if it read 18-25 you are safe assuming a 20 avergae but if it read 8-12 you should plan on 8 gusts. Also the direction has aLOT to do with the readings here.

Hope that helps.

Huh? I was out from 12 until 2:30 on my 12, and for that time slot the sensor was marking low teens. I was powered most of the time, although I only pulled my depower rope in a few times. I figured it was blowing 18 or so near shore and 20 or more further out.

I assumed the sensor read low all the time.

It says 10M, but it's really a 9.

From my understanding, it used to read low because the bearings were shot in the sensor and the placement was too low. Last year they had a guy come out and replace/calibrate/ and substantially raise the sensor. So it does get an accurate reading but it is not what we would measure on the ground in front of the beach. Wind sheer, smoother winds at higher altitude, that kinda stuff.

All I know is if you see this, tell your boss you've got a bad Flu.
