Alameda - far out

Today there were 5 kites sitting in the sand when I got there at ~4:00, but I was there, and the water was inviting, so I got in. I was marginally powered on my 14 C, making big sweeps, but as I got further and further out, it got steadier and steadier. Eventually I was in deep water, fully powered, and everything was perfect. Tonight I was looking at google maps to figure out how far out I was, and based on the angles I was seeing things (the battle ships, the bay bridge and shoreline park) I'm guessing it was about 1.5 - 2.0 miles. I couldn't believe how powered I was! I wished I could have screamed to the other guys still on the beach to make the trek, it was so worth it. Anyway, I guess the moral is even if dead at the beach, sometimes those whitecaps out there aren't your imagination...

Oh, then when I came back to shore and the wind was so benign I tried sending it a couple of times. Splash.

There is seomthing seriously wrong with alameda's sensor and/or position. If you look at Ikitesurf they are saying alameda is the only place to get wind today and at 20mph! I doubt it. Quite frusterating I agree, even living accross the street I still somewhat rely on that live reading to tell me if I should leave work or not.
