Bill has moved back to the Bay Area and will start putting sails on the water later this year. I hope he gets the itch and puts some kites up in the air too, but I think that the profit margins for kites are too slim right now and he was burned once.

IMO, it's can't be a rebirth of Windwing without Bill. The names are synonomous in my mind.

Here's my question for Boarding Bob: "Why did you recommend I buy a 2004 Outrage as a great beginner kite?"

Did anyone catch the interview? Is there a place I can listen to it or read a transcript?

Kiters-

The WW we all knew and respected is over, itís been tarnished by those wishing to take advantage of the work of others for self gain without any respect and honor of the ones who laid the foundation.

Now the question is; ìwill Bill continue to design kitesî?
I surely hope so and feel that yes, it is his nature to do so.

When the time comes the kites will once again be an inspiration to innovation and give us kiters the opportunity to fly uniquely efficient and powerful kites and control systems.

Personally knowing Bill, I feel he is taking this time to reflect and re-build what was undermined by WW of present co.; being ìburnedî takes some readjusting and strategy.

Supporters of ìHansen Designsî are encouraged to speak up and let Bill know you stand behind the man as I do. We do want the flying machines of the present and future!

My order is placedÖ.

as everyone is praising Bill so much we all also should not forget that actually his last design, the RapII was a real flop. Sorry hard to say but it is just the truth. I still have it in my garage but never got used to it and also nobody in the bay area as I never saw it any more. Also part of the story.... beside his great other achievements...

Still really hope the best for him and I would be glad to hear more and better things about his new kites if he works on it. G

jjm - thanks for the link.

knyfe - I have two stories:

1) Bought a Bash 5.6 (windsurf sail) that sailed fine, but never looked right on the beach. One afternoon two of the WW team riders were at 3rd and I asked them for help rigging the sail. They worked on it for a while and I could tell by their sidelong glances to each other that the sail wasn't right. It was on the recommended Gulftech skinney mast and boom, but no matter what they tried, they couldn't get it to look like theirs which were lying nearby.

2) On Boarding Bob's recommendation I bought a couple of Outrages as my first kites. "These were going to be great for helping me learn to stay upwind." The leader lengths were a disaster from the start and even after getting all of that straight the kites are still very difficult to use for someone at my level.

The point is that good designs can be ruined by poor manufacturing at the factory and poor advice from the shop. Don't know if that's the case with your Rap 2, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were.
