The link for Captain Kirk's (Capt Kirks Then button for La Ventana) shows 3 pics all with small, but fun looking, waves at La Ventana ? Are these little waves an unusual event or commonplace.

I have reservations for Dec 25th-Jan 1 this winter but I have never been there before. The other place I am thinking about is Playa Copal in Costa Rica (and of course Brazil ... but I thought I might go some where local first). I tried So. Padre at Christmas a few years ago with Jack and Ying (and aside from the great company, it was a disaster - not the best time of the year to go to Texas).

When the north wind blows for multiple days, and a low tide exists in the midday, you will find more waves providing lots of fun for riding, launching and landing tricks on smooth wave faces. One place like this exists just downwind from Kirk's-but to be clear the wave is owned by Mark Basta-he'll kiteloop you right outathere. Of course there are many people who will try to find the best wave, more so over the holiday, meaning you might avod it, though usually there is lots of space. You can also ride downwind to the bottom of the bay, 3km or so and find on shore waves smashing at the lower reef and all the way to Punta Arenas. Generally, the area of la ventana is know to be good for it's flat to mild chop and occasional small wind swell waves, skimboards, surfboards, freestyle boards etc are all fun.

Of course more swell waves exist as you go south to Barriles, Leonero, Ribera etc. becuase the area is more exposed to the sea swell. And on the coast, Punto Canejo. What you need is a knowledgeable guide... when you arrive you'll get it wired at Mark Basta's bonfire welcome parties-bring tequila.
