Just opened up ikitesurf, and noticed a new wather station, sherman marker 12. It this located 2 miles upriver from the Sherman marker 14?? (I know, my insight and brilliance is incredible.....)

Anyone know? No info on ikitesurf.

My brother called me and gave me the heads up on that.

Should give a more accurate reading on the wind at the Abscess.

This morning it was reading 18 when the Sign was at 12, which is typical of morning winds.

The marker numbers alternate between odd and even numbers, red and green bouys. Red (the odd numbers I believe) are on starboard when travelling inland (red, right, returning). This makes Marker 12 just one green marker upwind of The Sign, eh?

But, as you are fond of saying, "your mileage may vary!"

Yup, one green marker downriver (since the waterflow doesn't change like the wind direction!) Four MPH difference between M14 and the new M12 at the time of this writing BTW.

Just an observation....noticed that the channel marker just upwind of the launch is marked #12.

I was out tonight (Swweeeeeet) and looked at the new marker graph when I came home. It definitely looks more like my session than the marker 14 for the same time period, but still doesn't match that closely.

The wind in front of the beach at Sherman is often so different than the wind in the channel and the wind in the lake. Unless you decide to kite only in the lake or only in the channel, this is going to affect your perception. For example, tonight it was nuking so hard directly in front of the beach that I decided to come in and switch from my 12 to my 9 because I was so completely OPed in that one spot, which also had the biggest swell.

The graph from Marker 12 really doesn't show a dramatic increase in windspeed at that time (around 6:30), but then, it didn't happen in the channel where the marker is, only directly in front of the beach and also in the lake.

Correction: the marker just off the kite launch is, in fact, RED and marked number 12 (home of the new sensor)-- not the green one I cited previously. It's the closest one to the beach and was delivering nicely yesterday BTW.

Dave, I beg to differ. Yesterday PM the sensor was reading WSW all afternoon, when in fact the wind was more SSW or SW -- everyone who tried to kite will confirm it. I was pissed at myself because I looked at the graph before I left and I assumed I had just read it wrong in my enthusiasm, but when I got back home I saw that it wasn't me.

I wouldn't drive down there if the wind is too far to the south, but I guess this new sensor isn't going to help us out in that regard.

I just meant the conditions at that marker location were delivering nicely-- not that the data was any good since it doesn't show up on the pager that I use. I also rode that part of the river yesterday and it was pretty darn fun again. If you kited on the inside only the past few days you, well... missed it!
