Learn to raley high and land comfortably. This might help you get comfortable with that feeling of having your body dragged behind the bar til you get your self vertical enought o relax in the air. Dunno if that is the trick or not, just an idea.

Heres how I learned. It needs to be one fluid motion. It is also a lot about timing. Try sending it like five times in a row on a good windy day. Then start to time in your head when the kite starts to pull you up. Then try to pop off the water at the same time. The water and board position also make a big difference. Get a good ramp to pop off of. It is really hard to pop off flat water or on the downside of ramp. Also get your body down into position so you can force your body up. Do an ollie on the board as well. Then remember the timing of when the kite pulls. Try some little ones at first so you don't wreck or spin out. I always tell people that doing it repetitively is the best way. Jump jump jump. Another key is you need good wind. Light inconsistent Alameda stuff is not right. =D>

load up, pop and send, then try to time the send closer and closer to the pop

Whorney,
should the raley be hooked or unhooked?
I have been mostly hooked in.... i mean dangling. I am relaxed though.
I weired thing with me..I boost normal-- but I backroll goofy. I have been practicing both but its strange.

You can bear downwind for a second, then cut hard back upwind just as you send the kite. Like PD said, this is easiest with a nice swell so you ramp off it.
If you find yourself spinning backwards because you veered too hard, keep going all the way around and now you've done a spin, too.
