I am currently living in Los Angeles. Pondering a move up to San Francisco for better life and better wind. I am totally unfamiliar with the cities/towns/areas of San Francisco, could you please give me an brief description of what the various areas are like?

Los Angeles isn't really a city, it's more of a collection of small towns. For example, Santa Monica is very different than Long Beach. That's the kind of things I want to know about the bay area. Help me out locals!!

I will be looking for housing and a job and want to know where to focus my search.

What is the scene like? Best spots I want to be close to? North Bay, South Bay?

SF/City offers Crissy and Ocean Beach, East Bay offers equi-distance to a variety of spots, North Bay is hardest to commute from, South Bay is closest to Waddell and 3rd Ave. Almost no matter where you go, there is riding within an hour's drive depending on fog and season. My suggestion? Get the job first, then decide on housing location. It's bloody expensive to live around here but the riding is excellent for most of the year.

If you prefer waves, think Santa Cruz. If you prefer butter, think Sherman Island. Best urban windsports in America are right here in NorCal. Keep the secret! Bye bye LA.
