Fastest Kite Nils Stolzlechner 32.88 mph

Fastest Windsurfer TIE: Bill Weir & Mike Percey 37.27 mph

Fastest Multihull Greg Ketterman 31.06 mph

Unfortunately we're all beat by a damn boat.

The fastest time ever measured took place 13 years ago, when an Australian vessel set the mark at 46.52 knots (86.16km/h) in open water and natural settings. Though millions of dollars have since been spent and countless new technological developments applied, no one has been able to go faster since.

your information is out of date:
The world record for sail powered water craft is 48.7 knots by windsurfer Finian Maynard. I believe it is avg speed over 500meters.
