Don't do it. Learn to bodydrag to your board instead. Leashes are a hazard.

I agree with Pablito, however, if you really really want it I can sell you mine :), PM me with what you think is a reasonable price.

Why?

1. Leashes are hazard, thats a fact.

2. Who leared without leash? Thats a fact too.

But please promise to put the same effort into upwind dragging as into upwind riding. If you know how to ride upwind, skip the leash. My 2 cents.

I am a beginner too. I have not had too much luck with wind. I did learn to body drag upwind and find my board. Its actually quite an experience, zig-zagging for the board.

I finally bought a kite-leash after one day where the wind died down after I spent 20 minutes dragging for the board. However, I havnt ever had to use it since. I think the best thing is to have a 2 meter line with a d-clips on each end or something similar, hooked and tucked into your harness. If you have an emergency or need to self rescue to shore, use that line. Otherwise forget about it. There have been a bunch of stories on various posts about the dangers of the leashes. I want my board far a way when my kite fluffs with wind at Sherman and launches me 30 feet in the power zone. I would rather drag and find the board.

Actually, someone delivered my board to me at Alameda recently. He was on a red Caution kite. Nice guy.

I think every year at the beginning of the season we get this thread. All leashes are a hazard to you nugget. Even with a helmet it's a danger. Newbie's imagin if you will - your up on your board a gust hits, you superman into the water for 20 yards, your board pearls, but it has to follow you due to the leash, now your board pops out of the water like it's been shot from a sling shot aimed at the back of your head. It happens every year. Sometimes the helmet helps, other times not so good. Your going to get one anyway because you know better than everyone else and are too lazy to learn to drag upwind. In a month or two you'll post about a close call or talk about the stiches you had to get. Then you'll decide that the leash was a bad idea, and learn to body drag upwind. Cut out the middle man, and listen to the people who have been in the sport for awhile. I'd rather loose a board than my memory (that's what the booze is for). See ya on the water with your leash, and don't forget to duck!!!

I tried it once, because I didn't want to learn to drag. After I relaunched my kite and the leash was tangled in the lines, my board was out of the water above my head. 10 min total time with a leash. Ditched the leash and the board and spent the rest of the session learning to drag upwind. It was a Darwin moment =D>
