hey everyone, im new to kiteboarding and looking to get started. i've already got a trainer kite and am practicing so i can go take some lessons. i was wondering if u can use normal wakeboards to kiteboard? ive been wakeboarding since the sport was invented and already have many boards. whats the difference between a wakeboard and a kiteboard? thanks for your help

I'll happy to tell ya, your in luck! One of the hottest kiters (doing freestyle) I've ever seen was ripp'n crazy S$%& on a regular wake-board at the same time heavy hitter Dave Broom was annihilating waves on his wake-board (both in full boots) during the last Kite Clash, sure it can be done... Most guys like something different. Remember your not behind a boat now!
Bottom line is the bottom curves (rocker) are the biggest differance. If your really into Wake I say , take out the Phatest Mo-Fo (nice and wide) you got and Send It! (unhooked, of course)

Earlier kiteboards were shaped more like wakeboards (circa 2001-02) and people realized that rocker on a kiteboard sucked. Yeah, you can use em but waterstarting, getting upwind, etc will be slow and switching to a real kiteboard will feel way better. Start on a kiteboard from the get go. You'll be glad you did.

If you own a bunch, use the wakeboard w/ the least amount of rocker.

I'd suggest foostraps. Boots while learning can be scary. You have to fly the kite 1 handed, or no handed, while you put them on. And if something happens, it's nice to be able to eject quickly. If you're comfortable w/ the boots, maybe sticking w/ them would be fine...

Hello Limmmy,

As of late, Dave Broom is now destroying the waves on a stretch directional board (not the Trow Model, a larger quad fin). Same powerful style, with more flow and speed. Now instead of 1 big hit on a wave - ala wake style - he does multiple big hits, more like surfing.

This is a style sport, so whatever works for you and puts a smile on your face, is the right answer.

Ya I've seen Dave on other stuff too and yes his style is changing. I'm just looking back and remember seeing alot of awefully big explosions when he rode that wake.
Man I dont know how those guys knees can handle the forces over and over again....
