Right of way?

Post by Kraemer » Sat May 27, 2006 10:31 pm

Who has the right of way? Someone landing or someone launching?

Also, who has the right of way when heading straight towards another kiter coming the opposite direction?

Is the "The upwind guy or the downwind guy"

or

between "Starboard tack and port tack?

-?????

you out at alameda yesterday?

if your out kiteing... and not at the s.f.y.c. races..
you have no right away
just stay out of everyones way.
jump when your clear of everyone and everything, piers, boats swimmers, windsurfers...other kiters.

upwind kite gos up
downwind kite gos down

starboard has right of way,
so right arm forword, starboard
right legg forword.. starboard

what charlie said. I usually just get out of the way regardless of what tack I'm on.

Landing has dibs over launching.

Most sites have a set of more specific rules for launching, such as direction, posted somewhere on site, or ask a few people.

And my personal pet peeve: At crowded launches, always pump your kite first before setting out your lines.

Hey Charlie,
I just tried to PM you but it didn't work. Yeah, I was thinking Bodega too. I just noticed that Sherman is coming up, though. I can't leave until 1 or so -- wait and see where the wind hits?

Charlie, no I wasn't at alameda. I usually ride on the peninsula.

What If you could only choose one method of etiquitte....

Either the port and starboard option of the rule --or--

Upwind and downwind option.

The reason I ask is because I was the upwind rider on my port tack--but
so I decided to go high. If I let the starboard rider have the right of way I would have lost 20 yards to dip around him--any way he got a small bit miffed and told my buddy to have me read the rules of the road. The international code is the upwind/downwind rule. Starboard tack is for sailboats I thought?????

Any body else can weigh in.....

:), a fun day indeed. Yeah, but it's different to high five on the way past, there is no confusion about who is going where and I only do that with people I trust.
