So this MAY not be the correct forum since it is weathe rrelated, but it blew me away when i read it, so i decided to put it here.
" Question of the day: If we continue to see few NW wind days there will be weak upwelling of cold bottom water which means summer ocean temps may be warmer than normal. Who knows what this may mean fog and for Sherman summer winds? "
Is he somehow implying that we're going to have a horrible year?
I HOPE he is just putting out a theory that may not be HUGELY noticable. What do you guys think, are we all doomed?

Well, in the same forecast he also mentions that NW winds are nuking further offshore. The water temp effects of upwelling are probably more affected by what's happening over a stretch of at least a few hundred miles or more, so a local eddy really isn't much of a factor. NWS has booming NW winds forecast for tonight through at least Tuesday (20-35 kts Mon/Tue). That should rile up the waters enough to keep things cool!
Cheers,
Gideon

The end is near
Kevin - yes, sherman will not blow, so you may want to sell all you gear now while you can.....just kidding of course....I am always skeptical of people making long term forecasts - this is very tricky and difficult.
Here is what I know:
* Last couple of years where we had "warm ocean" temps, sherman still blew
* All it takes is a few good windy days on the coast and upwelling gets rolling
* Sherman, by where it sits in the funnel of air to the valley, blows as soon as there is any energy moving around.
So, don't worry brother. Those sweet delta days will happen.

I had similar thoughts as Godsey...
I wouldn't go writing the book on it yet but it is definitely going to be a different kind of year. I have been out of town for almost a month...basically, it stopped raining the day I left...so I haven't seen the transition season yet, which is usually a god indicator for the season.
I do know that where I am, it is like clockwork as far as the season goes in this area...so...I guess we'll see.

Gabe - I wish it would've stopped raining a month ago... We had rain all month, until about a week ago.
Another potential wind killer is that all this late winter/early spring rain that we'v had invigorates the natural vegetation in the central valley. The more vegetation on the ground, the less the ground heats up which results in a weaker thermal effect. We'll see what happens...
