This weekend?

Post by marin » Thu Feb 02, 2006 11:18 am

I'm trying to plan my weekend and to me it looks like Saturday is a possibility at Alemeda. What do those in the know think?

SAN FRANCISCO SAN PABLO SUISUN BAY AND THE WEST DELTA- 909 AM PST THU FEB 2 2006
....
.SAT...W TO NW WINDS 10 TO 25 KT. A CHANCE OF RAIN.

.SUN AND MON...N TO NE WINDS 5 TO 15 KT.

I'd say that the translation of that forecast is: "We don't know what the fuck the weather is going to do this weekend. It could blow West, or maybe Northwest, and it migth be pretty strong, but on the other hand, it could be pretty weak."

On the other hand, this weekend is probably our last chance for a while, because the weather pattern is shifting from stormy to clear and they're saying we'll have high pressures (no wind) for at least a week after Sunday.

Sunday at the beach looks the most promising, if you're willing to brave 20 ft. swell.

THE NEXT UPSTREAM TROF MOVES TO THE SW BRITISH COLUMBIA COAST LATE FRIDAY NIGHT/SAT MORNING. THE SURFACE LOW BOMBS OUT TO 967 MB AT 46/129 BY 12Z SAT. THE HIGH WINDS WILL STAY TO OUR NORTH...THE MAIN EFFECT WILL BE LARGE SWELL SETS GENERATED BY THE LOW.

I find the Zone forecast, while only forecasting wind for 3 days, and weather for 5 days, seems to balance the coastal forecast.

The storms this week all seem to be teasers, for wind anyway. And yesterday's storm went and screwed up the snow, too. 7000 ft.

If I can make it I'm gonna try for saturday. If it does'nt happen, I'll just try again on sunday.
If in doubt, do it.

The job of a weather person!

What would happen if you went to work and made mistakes all day?

My 2 cents is wait till the day that you can go and check the weather for the day. When it comes to the wind nobody really knows until the day before.

I think Spring is coming soon. This weekend should be good, at least I hope to think so. It's even SW wind at alameda now.

hopefully the wind patterns will shift quickly, it sucks having that down time, I remember the end of the season last year, it drove me crazy!
