I suggest a beach cleanup day at sherman on Saturday, February 11th.
Most of the access was under water up to the picknick table with the blue metal awning over it.

SI clean up
Way to take initiative. I heard that the huge log that was at kite beach is now nearly at the parking lot. However, I agree with Blair that we should wait until the end of March-ish before doing any major clean up. But let the troops know; I'll help pass the word. As my mother said, many hands make light work (to which my father added, especially with a beer in one!)

I think sometime in March would be better, too -- maybe not all the way at the end, but... February can really have some big storms, and if the Pineapple express hits again and the snow starts melting early, those logs might conveniently get washed onto the windsurfer beach
I already mentioned that I just got a trailer so I can bring one of my tractors down to haul any large chunks of log out of the way.

The reason that the beach at Sherman gets flooded in storms is because it's not protected by levees. When you drive through the gate at the park, you are leaving the levee-protected part of the island.
I also thought the logs were serving the purpose of protecting the beach, because last year was the first time I kited there.
But I guess they didn't used to be there.

You guys are right-- the logs are circa '03-'04 and they were randomly placed by entropy (not human design.) They only stayed there since they were so damn thick. Now Paul will be local hero with the manly-tools required. I, for one, will buy you a beer! I've always been fascinated by large equipment like that. One time my friend (who was the Rollerblade rep at the time) took me to a farm machinery show. Big toys. Very big.
Jeff always gets in a Delta day or two in February, but March is probably more reasonable. I heard a bunch of erosion has occurred there and major loss of windblock by blackberries too. Soon we'll be launching from the pavement!
30 days and counting... =D>

Hmmm, I'd be surprised if the flooding actually ripped out the roots of those blackberries -- they're pretty tenacious. They might grow back as soon as it warms up, though it will take them a few years to get as big again. I'm interested to see what the place looks like.
Until then, we migth just want to move the logs back to where they were last year, for erosion control purposes.
