I'll take this one...

First, start eating Krispy Kreme for breakfast, Big Macs for lunch and steak and potatoes for dinner. No fluffy vegetables. (Cake and ice cream right before bed would be nice.) Best if you wash these down with iced mocha, Coca-Cola, Pale Ale and whole milk, respectively.

Then, start doing pull-ups. After dinner. And a milkshake. Try some squats. Speed-sports require massive legs. (And hairy nuts.)

Learn to kite totally overpowered. Learn to LOVE to kite totally overpowered. Ask around at the beach, and if they say "12" rig a 16. Buy a narrow board. Reduced wetted-surface is the key. Not too short though. Better yet, have Stretch shape you a speed-needle. Or Jimmy Lew.

Remove your fins. Buy a seat harness with a low hook. Bare-off (or is it bear-off?) onto a broad reach. Maybe 15 or 20-degrees from perpendicular to the wind. No pinching allowed. Hold on tight and pray to Jesus. If it gets too hectic, toe-turn downwind and gather it up again. Lather, rinse, repeat. Live for adrenaline and roost your buddies at every opportunity.

I used to speedsail on a windsurfing kit and doing it on a kiteboard is WAY more frightening. Please let me know when and where you will be practicing. I'm interested in watching (and drag-racing too.) To hell with Finian Maynard!

(Did I mention the high-aspect kite with thin struts and narrow leading edge? None of this freestyle crap. If you can handle-pass it, it's not gonna' be a speed kit.)

That way, if it all goes horribly wrong, you'll have quick freeway access to Alta Bates?

Don't you need flat water to go fast?

I think the current kiting world record was on a 9m crossbow.... which I have seen handlepassed many times.

Is that true? With all the pressure on the backside of the XB it seems less likely to be a speed tool. I doubt they were handle-passing when they set the record, eh?
