Another bowkite thread on kiteforum brings up a new problem with bow kites -- how to self rescue. They say you need to grab the kite by a strut, not the wingtip, and let a little air out of the main bladder before you can do it.

I'm sure all summer long there will be story after story about unforeseen situations with all the new bowkites that will be flying around.

is it just me or would any kite reverse launch better off of sand better than from water with the surface tension, chop, etc.

Blair, Any kite with really wide wingtips could relaunch like that. Do you remember what Bill H. did with the outrage in Pismo. He was able to get that thing to reverse launch. I think your right about it being easier to relaunch on the beach. The main problem is getting the resistance to reverse launch. I think that the bow kites need less pressure to relaunch, making it easier.

I always wondered if you could rig upwind of the kite and set something up to flip the kite upright, so essentially it would be flying right through the powerzone, but depowered enough you could drag safely. The bows depower SOOO much, you can do otherwise stupid things like this. I have years of hotlaunching blades in big winds and being dragged 40-50 feet before the kite hit the zenith. Of course I know I will get yelled at hardcore by many if I do this during "the" season.
