Board Size Question

What's a good all around board size for a 190 lb guy using a 14 at 3rd? Just for cruising, intermediate level.

I would say something around 150 cm (minimum ~ 135cm ).
I'm 6'2" and 195#.
I have a 192 directional for the light wind days, a 171 cm tt for the surf, a 151 cm tt (which is my favorite all around board), and a 122 cm for the days I just want to bump n jump.

Hi,
i`m about your weight and my allround board is the 05 dragon L, flying the 04 vegas in 10 and 14.

my smaller one is a 04 jaime in 128/37,5, but i need to be pretty powered to use it.

the dragon L is a good choice in gusty conditions, it gets going quickly and with our weight you can control the edge pretty long too.
it is also very forgiving at barely landed jumps.
and i bought it back in germany on the used market for about 300,-, so it doesn`t burn a hole in your wallet...

the two days i had at 3rd ave i didn`t even think about getting on the jaime flying the 14m.

Simple - 130x40. Undeground FLX is a sweet production board that will meet your needs 100%.

I am 220# and use above size board for all flat water conditions.

I ride the132x39 FLX and love it. I can't find the topend and it planes early enough for light winds.

They are both insane boards that you will love.

If you are on a budget then the 2005 RRD XXX 132x38

or the 2005 Caution Redline 2 132x38 would fit the bill!

All above 4 boards are probably the top end all-around boards in the market right now.

I love the UG FLX 132 as well, it rocks. I have found the top end, but only because I'm used to a custom LMG shape that allows high-speed riding in lit-up conditions. As far as production boards, i haven't ridden one that I've liked better than the FLX 132. When I say I have found the top end, it may somewhat misleading, it's just in lit-up conditions where I've found the board to require more effort to maintain your edge and go upwind, but again, my comparisons are to a custom board.

Thank you for the replies. I'll now give "the rest of the story". I already have a 137 x 39 board twin and a 192 directional. It always seems the wind dies when I grab the 137 and jumps when I take the 192, but I wasn't sure if this was preception or ability. ;) Anyway, it sounds like the 137 should work long term.

My next question then is about the 192. I can get that board planing if I can get a kite in the air. Just dive the kite and I'm up. The problem is that the board takes off and as I turn it up wind to take the power out of the kite I get bounced around and inevitably ripped over the nose. Do these big boards require a different riding style? When I start to edge it, the thick rails just want to bounce out.

Ollie I'd have to agree with you, but I snapped my LMG beyond repair before I got the FLX. It is true that the LMG has no topend, but the FLX is more skatey which tool awhile to get used to. Wish I could still ride both.
