Kiteboarding 13 miles from 3rd to Alameda

Post by average_male » Sun Oct 02, 2005 9:43 am

Yesterday (10.01.05) my girlfriend and I were watching some kiteboarding at 3rd ave. When we first got there we noticed two kiteboarders out in the distance towards Oakland. As time went on, we would check on these two kiteboarders and noticed them getting further and further away. About a good 30 minutes of watching kiteboarders, we could no longer track the two distant kiters. Which brings me to the question, Has anyone heard of someone making this 13 mile kiteboarding trip from 3rd to Alameda?

Thanks for any insight.

I think Jeff from Kitewindsurf has done a Alameda-Coyote trip before. I've heard of some windsurfers who have done 3rd Ave to Alameda too. Those kiters could've been doing an upwinder to Coyote? Or doing lessons from a jet ski?

I saw a couple guys do it last year. The conditions have to be perfect though for it to work. I would not try it without a chase boat.
