Bad design ideas and even worse names

I was hanging out with a friend who makes boards the other day. Some guys came into his shop and were bs-ing. One of them started talking about this great idea he had for a light wind wave board -- real thin, strong aluminum with a really narrow pointed end.

My friend laughed and said, "Maybe you could call it the Machete". The guy was like, "Yeah, that's a cool name".

It seems like Peter Lynn already won the prize for worst kite name ("Bomba"?! What the hell were they thinking?)

How about some other names that board manufacturers should never, ever choose? Titanic. Torpedo. Guilllotine.

Anyone?

Sounds like a great board to amputate yourself with during a big wipeout.

I think Ollie got it.

There's a board called a Switchblade? Seems like a poor choice of names, but maybe it's just me.

I think the difference between Spitfire and Crossbow/Slingshot is that the former is a fighter plane, so the kiter is the pilot. With CB and SS, the kiter is the projectile getting shot out of the weapon.

I think I'd rather be the pilot. But I sure wouldn't want to be kiting attached to a "Bomb" hanging in the air above me.

Switchblade is the name of cabrina's new bow kite. Maybe you fold it in half until you need it, then push a button to open up the kite. Would work great in a kite fight!!

I have thought htis one through, has some good perks, but IT WONT float! Thats kinda a big issue out there. It would be really easy to cut and roll though but the overall flexiblity is way too much compared to comparable size in wood or composite. I have even tried a clear polycarbonate board but it would weigh 28 lbs at 1/2" thick and still have 10 times more flew than a conventional board.

I was thinking about a poly board. What about using a thing layer of poly and some type of light weight frame to give it strength and stuff? You might even be able to make it such that you could change bottom shape at the beach? And then maybe something to add bouyancy.

I think there was a typo either from the Kiwis designers or the silscreeners in China:
"Para bailar la bamba
Para bailar la bamba
Se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia pa mi pa ti
Arriba y arriba
Y arriba y arriba por ti sere
Por ti sere
Por ti sere
Hello no soy marinero
Hello no soy marinero
Soy capitan
Soy capitan
Soy capitan
Bamba bamba
Bamba bamba
Bamba bamba

Arriba y arriba
Y arriba y arriba, por ti sere
Por ti sere
Por ti sere
Bamba bamba
Bamba bamba
Bamba bamba"

If you really want to talk about bad designs, how about the Cabrinha leashless bar. It's happened more than once that the Cabrinha donkey dick has come off someones spreader bar and... runaway kite. People with these kites should use the clip and ride spreader bars. Stupid design if you ask me.
Or how about using the 5th line as your leash. Accidentally get it wrapped around your kite, and bam you lose a section of canopy on your kite. Have you guys seen this one?
