Another idea for safety on crowded days.

What if, on crowded days, we made a rule that only a certain number of kites can be in the air at once. So if a kiter is about to launch and he/she looks up and sees 3 kites in the air he/she waits. This may not only help reduce collisions and clutter but it may also force ourselves to help other kiters that are having problems. I guess the only real issue with this would be, who is next? Those that are truly desperate to get out often go into selfish " I have to get out NOW!" mode. It is apparent to me, that above all else, I am just going to have to relax when I get to the beach and not feel like I have to be the first one on the water.

I think that is a great idea Yuri because a number is pretty clearcut, like the kite in hand when you hit the sand rule. Also perhaps changing right of way to those coming in (like sherman) would make sure that people are sensitive to whats happeing in the water, not just on the beach. (I'm worried about a backlog of people waiting to come in and piling up while there is an endless que of luanchers, but I guess that issue goes both ways) -stef

There was mention of getting permission for the school zone to be moved downwind to where the beach is wider. Assuming this is allowed, would the current school zone still be kept for other school related activities?
If not, could there be seperate launch/landing zones in the main area? That way landing kites could still be given priority, but it wouldn't hold up launches once safely on the ground due to line crossing.
Maybe it could be used for this when lessons are not in session?

FKSA: NEW CRANDON PARK RULES
An example of limiting number of kiters. Specifically:
"Kitesurfer must check into the Park Office prior to accessing the beach. A minimum P.A.S.A. or I.K.O. level 3 certification must be obtained and a copy will be kept on file. Kitesurfers will be issued a pennant that must be flown while kite is in use. A limited number of pennants will be given out daily on a first come first served basis. "
I believe these rules where created after Claudios accident?

I think a few orgaizational rules followed on beach and in water can clear up alot of problems on crowded days. There should be plenty of room if everyone sails outside in a conservative manner and stays away from the beach in general, (when its crowded).Rules written in stone suck and should be based on conditions.

Elegantly stated Charlie:
If Peacocks.
Were not sweeping kites over the heads of beach goers, beach goers would not have complained to the Park (repeatedly, repeatedly).
And the passive walking of kites up the beach would be ok.
But, it ain't so.
