8 meter Windwing Rage II or Outrage ?

To WW users, I am thinking of buying the 12m rapture then take advantage of the 1/2 price deal an 8m rage II or outrage as my next (and last) kite down.

A buddy tried the Rages in Hatteras and wasn't too impressed with the turning speed or height of jumps. He liked the Raps but wasn't able to try the outrages. We both owned a Best nemesis 12m and he figured the Rapture jumps around the same height but turns faster.

Anyway in the 8m size, what are the experiences of the rage vs outrage? I would probably prefer the extra height and hang time of the outrage and imagine the turning speed is irrelevant in that size for consideration kiting in the waves. Also what is the top end you have experienced with the outrage 8 ?

Thanks, Mattdog

Matt,

I prefer the Rage II is sizes 12 and down, but the smallest Outrage I have is a 10m, and I like it and would probably like the 8m Outrage also. The outrage is sick for massive air, hangtime and a power. I've flown the 8m Rage II is fairly lit up conditions and found it to be a blast. I was able to muster plenty of air, although the nature of the jump differs quite a bit from the Outrage. The Rage II provides a faster, more vertical uplift and doesn't offer as much hangtime as the Outrage, which gives you more air, loft, hangtime and forward travel, but the ascent I don't find as rapid.

I'm surprised that your friend wasn't impressed with the turning speed of the Rage II's as I find that they turn pretty darn quick and on-axis, rather than on a wingtip as with the higher aspect kites. Fast enough that doing powered kiteloops with the 12m Rage II in 17-20 was no problemo, only problem being my timing. :(

You mention waves. The Rage II would be better suited for wave use, but not sure to what extent you'd be kiting waves, so if you're not a dedicated wave hound, you could make the Outrage work for the occasional wave session. As far as top end with the Rage II, I would take it up to 35 at the upper end, *with* the SAFE bridles installed.

Good luck,
Ollie

I have a Outrage 8m kite, but I haven't had a chance to ride it. I could tell you the 12m is a (ear muffs) KICK ASS kite. Turns as fast or faster than anyother high aspect kite I ever flown, and I've only flown high aspect kites. If you want lift go Outrage!!
