I was going to order an Ocean Rodeo Mako 150 just to check it out. I mostly sail in the Richmond/Berkeley East Bay and I weigh about 200 lbs, so I'm guessing this board will be about right. There's the 165 cm, but that seems too huge...am I missing something? I mean, maybe the 165 is mostly for strapless or mutant style???

The MAKO 150 would be an excellent choice, also the new Duke 2.0 would be an excellent first surfboard too.

That's another thing I don't 100% understand yet. I see a lot of surfboards in the east bay, especially at the Marina Bay launch,but there aren't very large waves over here. I eventually want to get one...but what is the benefit for using one in the east bay chop/wind driven waves?

I have a Ocean Rodeo Duke which is like the Mako 150 but with a little more float to it and its perfect for the bay small waves and places like Marina Bay. Its a fun carvey and easy to ride board thats very forgiving.

Andy- I told you to get the King(165). Huge range,etc. But now I think you may want to try the Duke. The 150 would be great and you can try mine, but at 200 pounds, you may not like it in the lulls. The 165 does not feel huge and rides as smooth as the 150. Ron

A surfboard will offer more range and a little flotation to get home on.
It offers a better ride to Tour the bay
Over clinging to the launch....
And as the west bay boys are all over 60 its easier on your knees!!

olemakos are great.
i've owned the 140, 150 and 165. i didn't notice a whoie lot of difference between them. i'm 175 and settled on the 140.
i gave in to pier pressure and tried a couple directionals, but found them bumpier than the mako twin tip.
then i got the duke. not only does it smooth out the chop like the makos but it much more forgiving in the turns than other surfboards.
still love both my ocean rodeo boards.
